course comments :Once again, like CH 101, I thought I learned the material fairly well, but I blew up on the tests. The book is necessary for HWs and studying.

class comments :THings would have been better if the +/- system was used, and also this was the first time I encountered MAPLE, which was 5% of final grade, and I failed miserably with that, which probably resulted in a C instead of A.

instructor comments :Chinese, says he's been here 40 years but still has a very thick accent. Very receptive to questions, I asked a lot of them! However, gave me an F for a final grade because he said he didn't have my final exam, but it was there, I just had labeled my seat and row number incorrectly (name and SSN was still there!).

course comments :It's calculus. The material was of moderate difficulty, the trick was in remembering what to do, not understanding (because it was not difficult to understand)

class comments :It felt like high school in there and that drove me crazy (and took my ambition with it). I had to teach myself a lot of the material because her teaching style didn't mesh with mine. I like to be shown how underlying principles are at work and have endless examples. She likes to show you the framework to solve a problem and then try and get you to do exercises to figure it out yourself or something. I hate that! I'll figure it out when I'm doing homework, dammit. Lectures are for teaching.

instructor comments :She's not so bad. I noticed most people did not make A's, but they didn't seem like they had that sharp of calculus backgrounds anyway, and I did. To do well you need to understand previous calculus concepts pretty well. She doesn't move too fast, she's helpful if you ask, she's friendly, but it's like a high school math class. I didn't have much trouble, just study like you're supposed to.

I made an A- in my MA 141 class and until MA 241, actually enjoyed math and calculus, even though I'm not a math or engineering major. My trouble with this class is that Dr. Burniston worked problems far too quickly. I would stop him and ask questions, but I couldn't even understand his responses. I met with him a few times outside of class and tried to teach myself the material to no avail.

class comments :I stopped going to class after the 3rd week or so. Jing doesn't take attendance, homework is optional, and you ARE allowed to use a calculator on tests. I did good on the tests but I figure I lost 5-12 points off my final grade due to making 0's on the 3 in class quizzes and doing bad on maple.

His tests are easy, and as if they weren't easy enough, he's COMPLETELY oblivious...one of my friends and I would collaborate on the tests....with our notes too!!

I didn't make above an 80 on any test and a 70 on the final, I ended up with a B+...so even after you make the 55 on the first test, don't drop the class, she won't let you fail if you do the homework and try. Also, her office hours are basically everyday all day and is the most approchable teacher I've ever had, I spent hours in her office before tests and on homework...TAKE HER CLASS!!!

She would throw in jokes every once in awhile and some of the things she said while explaining the material were funny even though she didn't intentionally mean for them to be. She sort of jumped around from our main topics to explain other points a lot. That could be annoying at times, but it wasn't too bad...Just took up some time.

class comments :In class you're given a formula or equation shown an example and expected to know it inside an out. He uses as Maple and a homework you print out yourself as "practice." The tests usually only mimic the homeworks, i.e. they only have about four or five problems. It's really easy to start making low grades and not be able to pull it up. He rambles about his marathons frequently in the middle of his lectures. It's a real bore. He's a nice guy. He just can't teach.

class comments :Somehow I pulled off an A-, but I believe the final helped me. The class placed a huge emphasis on tests. No HW. Miss less than 5 days, she drops lowest test. Automatically replaces lowest test grade with final test grade (if final is higher). Lectures were somewhat boring (but hey... it's math) and whenever one section was finished, another would begin... it was a non-stop frenzy that almost drove me insane. TONS of material. Class RARELY let out early.

class comments :she did a pretty good job explaining things. if you didnt understand something you could just ask and she'd repeat it. my problem was i never asked... attendance policy was do-able. if you are late/absent for 5 days or less in the semester (keep in mind the class meets every day), then she drops your lowest test grade. and then for everyone she will replace your lowest test grade with the grade you got on the final if it's higher.

Everyone I know made a B or better. I left halfway through all the time, only did three homeworks out of at least 10, and managed somehow to makes As on all the maples. This wasn't a required course for me, but I had already learned most of it in AP Calc, so I decided to take it anyway. The material was pretty hard, you have to do the homework and study. The Maple lab was really annoying...

class comments :McCollum was pretty good at teaching the material. She went pretty fast but i guess she needed to get through all the material. She was nice and let us have a day off every once in awhile. She drops your lowest test grade if you have 4 or less abscenses so i guess their incentive not to skip.

Covers advanced techniques of integration, applications of these, an introduction to Differential Equations, and briefly touches on sequences and series toward the end of the course.

class comments :As with any math class, the only way to make a really good grade is to study your ass off. I studies a lot for this class, but not nearly as much as I should have considering this was a summer session 5-week class. Dr. Franke made the class material more enjoyable to learn. A generally kind demeanor and plenty of examples made it much easier to understand what was really going on.

class comments :For the most part, his tests weren't that bad. However, for the last two tests he included a true/false section that was worth about 20-30 points. I dropped a letter grade on those tests because of no partial credit. Only curved twice, counted lowest test grade 6%, middle 2 11% each, and highest 16%, but only towards the end of the semester. Maple was 5% and attendance was 4%, but he didn't really care. Class didn't meet on Fridays, except on the week of tests, and that was becuase he had a
