class comments :i probably shouldnt have signed up for the honors section. maybe i would have done better in a regular class. there were some people in there that obviously left their diablo games only to come to this class.
instructor :Haider
instructor rating :3 - Good
instructor comments :i had a great experience with haider in 242, but i learned that an instructor can teach different classes differently. haiders tests were tough, and the exam was damn near impossible. i still cant figure out how i got a B. still, haider is a great guy, grades as fair as he can, and is funny.

He gave nightly homework, but wasn't willing to spend much time going over it in class the next day. 3 exams split 2/3s of the grade, with the final counting the last 1/3.

Enjoyed hearing about the "sporty method" of solving certain problems, and all of his quaint British expressions kept the class entertaining. Pretty good at interacting with the class during lectures, and explains things pretty well. I think he's retired now, though, so it might be a moot point. If you missed out on him, I'm sorry.

He has lots to say, and often he will simply talk about his personal experiences in mathematics instead of teaching for a little while. He still manages to cover his material though. And he is really funny. Don't sit near the front of the class or near the aisles unless you want to be picked on.

This was until his final exam. I had an A+ in the class and dropped to a B+ bc he put problems on the exam that were like nothing we had on the homework or previous tests... which is what I had studied! I would take him again but I was pretty pissed about the final.

class rating :4 - Awesome
class comments :The class was very fair. The way grades are determined is clearly explained from day 1. Attendance is supposedly taken and counts for 5% of the final course grade. Class never got out early and sometimes went overtime when he started late. If you know how to do the homework (only one homework set per test), you will ace the tests. Pace is important on the tests. You can know how to do everything and get caught by the time. Watch out for the final. It was entirely too long.
instructor :Hong
instructor rating :4 - Awesome
instructor comments :Hoon Hong is the man. Very funny and personable. He really cuts the fat and teaches only what you need to know. The T.A. graded everything, and sometimes it wasn't returned promptly, but that was often because there were people that took the test late or something. Has an accent, but is easy enough to understand, and has good grammar.

Two tests and a final, with many chances for extra credit. That's the only way I managed an A. Lectures were pretty much problems from the book w/ occasional proofs that you shouldn't bother to write down.

Tests were brutal if you werent up to date with your integration techniques, and trig identities in particular. He expects you to know and be able to do everything you learned in calculus with no problem. I dont really know how helpful the book was as I never opened it. Homework was optional, but I assume it was helpful.
