Analysis and design of mechanical components based on deflection, material, static strength and fatigue requirements. Typical components include beams, shafts, pressure vessels and bolted and welded joints. Classical and modern analysis and design techniques. Computer analysis using the finite element method. Material and manufacturing considerations in design.

| course comments : | solids 2. it really didn't interest me. it would have been nice if there was more visualization or labs or something. the material got hard at times. |

| class comments : | weird class. the class got canceled or let out early 90% of the time. it was so fucking boring that i never absorbed any of the material. luckily the tests were open book. he announced that we could drop a test right before he passed out the student evaluations. good timing for him. |

| class comments : | You didn't have to take notes b/c Zikry printed everything out. Must have killed a small forest in paper. Extremely boring. Would cancel class at the drop of a hat. Zikry was completely uninterested in teaching the class. |

| instructor comments : | One of the worst experiences I've had in the ME department. Zikry was completely uninterested in teaching the course. Furthermore his lecture style was completely and utterly boring. Made me want to jump out of a window. |

| class comments : | I really did not deserve the grade I received at all. The material is presented so that you pass the class, rather than so that you can learn. Basically, the entire class consists of going over prob's from the book. No teaching of concepts, theories, anything like that. The tests are basically based on memory b/c they are almost all knowing the terms/ definitions/charts from the book and the problems, almost all of which he has either gone over in class or are examples in the book. | instructor comments : | I feel really bad about giving this rating. He is about the nicest person you will ever meet, but he needs to do something about his teaching style. He is almost too nice in that he does so much to give out good grades. I have him a good grade for statics, but that was basically me just getting into my major. Now, I am farther along and realizing I need to LEARN this stuff, not just memorize it for a test. |

| class comments : | Class was easy. Not much work required, you could either memorize what you needed or learn it. I learned it and I think I did better on my final exam bc of that. Attendance policy rewarded with bonus points on Tests. Class let out early. Video shown on crack propogation. Book is needed. Not many girls. |

| instructor comments : | Ok this is getting harder and harder to pick a rating for Dr. Bahram. I don't know if he is just that damn easy, or if everyone else is that damn bad a teacher. But I feel like I actually learn while in his classes. Some disagree, but that's fine. I had to learn it, bc I was taking 415 this same semester and I needed the 316 concepts to apply to 415. speaks clearly, prompt grading, very helpful outside class, very friendly, very humorous |

| course comments : | continuation of 314, with more focus on factor of safety. the course is kind of all over the place, with lots of different ways to find stress & shear. |

| class comments : | Zikry's hw made me want to kill myself. But I feel like I learned the material very well. class was often canceled. tests were open book/notes and pretty straightforward, but were too long. the book was worthless and zikry never used it. |

| instructor comments : | his lectures were really boring and I hardly ever went. in class he just circled equations on the overheads. you had to print out the notes, cost a bundle in print quota. Zikry was friendly if you get to know him. |
