| course comments : | Course material was alot of repeated stuff from 216 and 226 just a bit more elaborated on. |
| class : | Spring 2002 section 001 |
| grade received : | B+ |
| class rating : | 2 - Average |
| class comments : | The class itself would not be so bad if it wasn't for the teacher. The book sucks completely. Class always went the entire time to the minute, but there was no attendance policy. Tests were very hard, and many people thought the programs were too difficult too, although I found them okay. |

| instructor comments : | Horrible horrible teacher that just doesn't give five shits about you. Not friendly, not humorous, not helpful outside of class. I just took the final and we have only gotten one program out of three graded, so I had to guess what my grade will be for what I needed to get on the final. He gives examples in class that just drone on and on and on, but then he doesn't explain many of the more complex things he didn't have any time to do b/c he spent so long on stupid little examples, but dont think |

| course comments : | It's pretty much just another computer science course which focuses on data structures more than anything. It's overall pretty boring, but if you know java well, then you'll do fine. I however, sucked at java. |
| class : | Spring 2002 section 001 |
| grade received : | C+ |

| class comments : | This class was awful. The only reason why I gave it a one is because attendance wasn't required. I doubt I could have been able to stay sane if I hadn't miss an average of one class a week. |
| instructor : | Bahler |
| instructor rating : | 0 - Horrible |
| instructor comments : | He seemed like a nice enough guy, but he didn't really teach anything. I understood what he was saying, but he didn't tell you how to implement any code to make anything work. If you can avoid him, do it. |

| class rating : | 2 - Average |
| class comments : | disorganized, rambling (we spent a whole day having him try to explain pointers to the bio people). Exams were not very representative of the material and appeared lifted from his AI class. |
| instructor : | Bahler |
| instructor rating : | 1 - Bad |
| instructor comments : | Bahler was not really qualified to teach this course - it was handed to him after the Rex Dwyer fiasco. His stint with bioinformatics (some statistics applied to toxicology) was actually less impressive than some of the projects and software that was developed by our class. I think they should have given this course to Heber when he arrived. (Note: I later became a bioinformatics programmer but it was in spite of this course.) |

| class comments : | The class was kind of easy so I slacked off on the programs a little, and even though I had an 83 in the class his grading scale was off so I only got a C+. It made me sad. |

| class comments : | Not too hard. A couple of projects. Make sure to turn in all parts of the assignment or you can only get like a 25 max grade. He will not back down on this at all. |
| instructor : | Bahler |
| instructor rating : | 1 - Bad |
| instructor comments : | He is really weird. He puts on latex gloves to draw on the board. Talks slow and breaths hard after finishing a thought like it pained him to talk. He is easy to understand though. Not a great teacher though, no interest in the material at all. He is just there because he has to be. |

| course comments : | Useful material for CSC majors, marginally useful material for ECE majors, although the propositional and predicate logic symbol theory will definitely come in useful in mathematics down the road... The course was relatively easy in the grand scheme of things |

| class comments : | The course was organized pretty well, although many, many subjects were dumbed down or marginalized because of the short time-span of the summer course. The book was required because of the homework assignments, but I rarely found myself using the material in the book to learn the topics (except for things that he didn't have time to cover in class). |

| instructor comments : | Probably one of the better teachers for this course. He stays fairly on topic and has a very good command of the subject. |

| class comments : | Bahler has to be the worst professor I've ever had!!!!!!! For the first two weeks of class he decided he didn't even want to show up, and didn't tell anyone he wasn't coming! He answers e-mails in a timely manner, usually, but his helpful hints are nothing more than repeating what you already know in different words. Tests are hard and the majority of the stuff on them wasn't covered in the class. The class wasn't about AI programming, it was about how to program in prolog. He mentioned neu |

| class comments : | Make sure to go to class, attendance was taken on only ONE day and it was worth 10% of the final grade. Tests were difficult, he did not prepare us well for the tests at all. He did not show up for the first week of class, and did not even bother emailing the class. |
| instructor : | Bahler |
| instructor rating : | 1 - Bad |
| instructor comments : | He did not put enough effort into teaching this class. He did speak clearly and loudly, however he was still boring. He did not seem to know how to use e-mail and wolfware. I do not recommend taking him. |

| class comments : | By far the worst class I've ever taken at NC State. You could probably take this class and get an okay grade, but only because Bahler has to give tons of extra credit to pull up the low grades. He taught prolog, not AI. When I read other people's ratings, I assumed they just didn't put effort into the class. Now that I've taken it, I see that it is impossible to put effort into learning the material because Bahler makes it SOO boring. If you take this class, take aderhol. |
| instructor : | Bahler |

| instructor comments : | He is intelligent, but he teaches this course at such a low level that you can't learn anything. He speaks in a low, monotonous voice that will put you to sleep. Everyone in this class either slept or played on their laptops. Bahler is an awful instructor. |
