| instructor comments : | A number of students will take her for multiple classes (I had her for ENG 112 and 223). She gives students pretty much free licence in paper topics (with the exception of the mid-term) and accepts a number of different viewpoints and interpretations. |

| class comments : | Dr. Rouphail has a Latin heritage, so she made every book tie into that somehow. The choice of books that we read weren't interesting, though we only read 4 books the entire semester. |

My previous AP English teacher had taught at State for years, but she graded me between a letter and two letters worse than my previous prof. I hope you don't mind professors swearing, because she did a lot of that. Seemed to be in her own world. |

| class comments : | Since there were 15 people in class, I felt obligated to show up. Your grade depends on your papers, none of which delt with the theory readings we went through -- I doubt anyone in class even read the countless assignments, seeing as we never talked about them in class.
We were required to read Don Quijote, and then attempted to apply it to every theory we disscused. Great if you like the book, if not ... it's going to be a long semester. Also, few people in the class even finished the ent |

| instructor comments : | A wonderful person outside of class - very helpful. But she would constantly stay off topic and become disorganized. Rouphail is so enthusiastic, but she gets off topic, rambles, and I felt like I had accomplished nothing whenever I went to class. She also likes to relate every topic to some off-the-wall writer or story/poem, so sometimes we'd spend an entire hour listening to her talk to herself. |

| class comments : | Again, very reading-intensive...you WILL do poorly if you don't do the reading...and they don't make Cliff Notes for these novels. You do a group presentation, two tests (that simply test on what happens in the readings), two short interpretive essays (graded on how well you support your position), and the final, which is two timed essays without notes of any kind (and you must include quotes from the readings) |

| instructor comments : | If you enjoy literature, Dr. Rouphail is a fascinating lecturer. She'll introduce you to a lot of authors you've never heard of. If you don't like literature, she's still pretty fair, you don't have to be good at interpreting literature, as long as you do the reading. |

| class comments : | Had to buy a few novels, but probably 50% of what we read was on E-Reserve. One group presentation, 2 very short papers (3 pages or so), 2 tests (based purely on the content of the readings), final essay test (2 short essays, you can pick your topic and prepare in advance). I'm not sure how much attendence plays into your grade, but stuff she says in class is often a good starting point for your papers. Read all of the assigned material - you will struggle on the tests if you don't. |

| instructor comments : | This was the second time I've taken a course with her, and she's one of my favorite professor I've had at State. Really doesn't grade harshly at all. Prone to go off on tangents during class, and/or reference works you know nothing about. |

| class comments : | This would have been a nice class, had I enjoyed the reading. The class does not require much work, IF YOU LIKE TO READ. Basically she bullshits to you in class about the books you read and everybody falls asleep. |
