class comments :I liked Gross - she's so cute and she does try to be fair. If you try in this class, she'll help you out. Some videos and you definitely need the books - although she goes over everything you'll need for the final/midterm

course comments :Not a bad core class at all, especially if you're interested in Classical literature.

class comments :Not a bad core class at all, especially if you're interested in Classical literature. Dr. Gross is very meek and often loses focus of what she's supposed to be teaching. She encourages class discussion, but she'll allow one or two people to totally run things and has a hard time regaining control. There were a few quizzes and not many papers at all. If you keep up with the reading assignments, you'll be fine.

course comments :interesting studies about women in medieval literature- women writers and protaganists, portrayal of women in medieval writing
class :Fall 2002 section 002
grade received :A-
class rating :4 - Awesome
class comments :I had a lot of fun in this class if I did the reading. As long as people could focus, we could get a good, enlightening discussion going. Sometimes things got a little off track or completely on a different train of though altogether. There were only three dudes in the class. If you're looking to pick up chicks, don't do it in a class like this cause only a few hot chicks (Lucy and Claire) were in it.

instructor comments :Dr. Gross is a little quiet but I absolutely adore her. She has a lot of knowledge about medieval subjects and encourages students to undertake interesting projects over the semester. She grades fairly and gives the benefit of a doubt (which is usually an extra grade point on your transcript). She has good office hours, both preset and arranged, and makes every effort to help students succeed and love medieval lit. :)

course comments :Very interesting material. I thoroughly enjoyed the literature for the class. This course was specific for Medieval feminist literature.
class :Fall 2002 section 002

class comments :The class was very relaxed and we didn't have much assigned work. It was important to stay on top of the readings, as class discussion was the biggest part of the class. We had a lot of older women in this class.

course :ENG 451
course rating :3 - Good
course comments :If you're into early English literature, you definitely need to take this course on Chaucer. You'll be going by the Middle English text of The Canterbury Tales, but that's not nearly as bad as it sounds. Understand this, though: No matter how well you covered the book in high school, this is a 400-level college course.

class comments :Don't be fooled by the description in TRACS--when I took this course, it was less "Chaucer" and more The Canterbury Tales. Still, it's a very rich course. After all, the Tales are canonical for a reason. P.S. I only made a C because I didn't do any of the work. Heh. All you've got to do, really, is a few quizzes, a mid-term, and a final, with one VERY minor oral report and a simple translation project.

instructor comments :Dr. Gross lets you get away with far too much. Every class I've ever had with her was easy. There's no doubt that she can help you learn the material like any good professor could, but she's not going to be the kind of professor who keeps you in line. To get the most out of her classes, you're going to have to be your own professor, for the most part. She also tends to discourage lines of discussion in class that run counter to her own claims, so don't expect to explore things as deeply as you'd

course comments :Arthurian Literature. If you've ever been interested in the stuff or are remotely curious about medieval literature, this is the course to take.

class comments :We had some good discussions and a lot of our misconceptions about Camelot were uhh, corrected. ;) The class ran more like a 200 level lit course except for all the reading. Sometimes you may have to read a really thick book over the weekend, but most of it is good reading. There was one midterm paper, a final paper (7-8 pages), a midterm, a final exam, and attendance- showing up is important. The lectures were more like seminars and students got to do several presentations throughout the semest

instructor comments :Kind of timid and flaky, but she knows her stuff. Discussions may run out of hand. It usually takes her a long time to get your assignments back, but you can get yourself a guaranteed A because she'll read your paper for you before it's due.
