| course comments : | Studying Islam over the course of 1400 years is a bit tough to do in a 1-semester class. We discussed different approaches to the subject matter, and hopefully it will be more managable. It is excellent for those attempting to learn more about the region--it's not for the faint of heart though. |

| class comments : | Excellent class. Many of us knew each other beforehand, so the class discussions were more interesting. Many people had lived in the region and had much to add. |

| instructor comments : | Tough, but well worth taking. Do the readings and participate in class. Don't attempt to fake your way through or hide in the back during class, because he'll ask your opinion sooner or later.
I've taken him for 2 classes and he's by far the best lecturer I've had yet. |

| course comments : | I've kept the textbook, as it has quite a bit of useful information. This class really developed my skills in historical writing and thinking. It's a challenge, but worth it. |

| course comments : | TONS OF READING. Big paper at the end, generally a typical 400-level history class. Course is required for History Majors. |

| class comments : | Despite all the reading this class was actually interesting. People may not think much of North Africa, but Dr. Khater definitely brought the events of the past into modern-day perspective. |

| instructor comments : | This guy is still a student at heart. He went out with us to go see a class-related movie, and on the last day of class, we ordered pizza and drinks. He's definitely the best professor I've had in the History Dept. His middle-eastern origins bring a refreshing and balanced view to modern-day events. Its always interesting to hear what he has to say, even if you disagree with him. |

| course comments : | I'm an open-minded person, but this course was a joke. I took this Summer II '05 ONLINE and it was horrible. The assignments nearly killed us (4+ 1-page summaries PER WEEK along w/ two 3-10 page essays that were IMPOSSIBLE to do well on. He holds you to such strict writing standards you can't just write a history paper. This should be labeled ENG 500+. |

| class comments : | I'm lucky I got a B-. No matter what you wrote, he thought it was wrong. I have excelled in writing, but his formats are so off the wall you'll never figure it out. Complete BS assignments. REQUIRES 4+ summaries and grades ONE. The rest? Waste of your time. Seriously, this class just hands out frustration. |

| instructor comments : | This guy thinks he is the Quran. He thinks he knows the Middle East inside and out. He loves to knock Western culture and bomb on us for "stereotyping" that culture. His writing and reading assignments require INSANE amounts of hours and he refuses to budge on his strict writing standards. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. |
