What happened to America?

submitted by ECUAlumni on Sunday, April 29 2001 at 1:21 PM

We're not in this bad of shape, but the city of Raleigh is performing some of the same acts that caused the colonies to secede from Britain. Read this: I doubt many of those involved were significantly older than us. I'm not crazy and suggesting rebellion, but I see parallels in the emotions expressed towards the city of Raleigh and our forefathers' attitude towards Great Britain.

Some quotes taken directly from the text of our country's Declaration of Independence:

"...when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government..."

"He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people..."

"He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power."

"For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:

For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever."

I'm glad to see my fellow students becoming so adamant about making a change. It makes me feel better to know that at least some of us still care. I say we fight back - not with violence and guns as THEY would do, but some other way...

"violence and guns" is our last resort. We must not forget that armed force is the greatest determinate for our freedom, period. "their" way is not through violence. "Their" way is through overbearing laws, and strict policies that take away our liberty. "Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what to have for dinner. Liberty is that sheep holding a (30-06.)" - Ben Franklin

This is why the government wants to take away our guns, so we can't rebel with force.

They can't disarm America; anyone can buy cyanide. A copper pipe, a piece of cork and a pin make an effective blowgun. There are thousands of people with forges and laithes making guns in their backyards.

My friend was talking about this one day and it was very intruiging to me. He was saying, in a reaction to Brent road and Pigstock, that we should get TONS of people and sit in the brickyard and drink. I think if we really collaborate on this and try, we can do this with a minimal people getting in trouble. Again, they cant get us all. This may not be the best way to get our rights back, but it would be fucking cool as hell

There is absolutely no problem with one of age drinking on the Brickyard. However, if it is an organized event, then extra steps may be requested.

If you haven't read the University Alcohol Policy, you should.

All of you are so fired up about the government and injustice... I hope every one of you is coming to the March on the Capitol on Wednesday. Look at it this way... If they take away our money, it will end up raising tuition, and you won't have money to buy your beer anymore...

No one should drink beer on campus, only people running for office under 21 can drink beer on the brickyard.
All I can say about that is, you guys better be glad Jboard and the OSC didn't find out until after elections were over.
