Wireless Network Web site Arrives

submitted by bjattari on Tuesday, November 2 2004 at 9:01 AM

Communication Technologies has launched a new Web site aimed at enhancing the wireless user's computing experience at NC State.

Surfers can now go to "Wireless at NCSU" and learn about wireless computing. The site explains how wireless works, answers frequent questions, has campus coverage maps and places for feedback. Additionally, students, faculty and staff can vote for a Hotspot, or area of wireless computing access. One Hotspot per month will be chosen based on voting at the Web site.

Later this year, new signs will highlight the many areas of campus where wireless access is already available. In addition, the new Web site, which consolidates all of the current information on campus wireless, will be utilized to communicate ComTech's progress as it accelerates deployment of wireless access.

"We are excited and optimistic about our current deployment plan and believe that it will bring great benefit to the campus community," said Greg Sparks, Interim Director of Communication Technologies.

More information on NC State's new wireless site can be found at Wireless at NCSU and also at ComTech.

If you guys dont have any strong opinions on where to vote for the next hotspot, I would strongly suggest Price Music Center. This is a building where many people spend their time between classes because many others are there and it is a great chance to hang out with friends. Many of us have discussed setting up our own wireless network, but raising money for it has been difficult. Getting a nomad access point in the building would be awesome. So again, many students would be extremely greatful if you voted for Price Music Center to be the next location of an Wireless Acess Point.
