I know I rage on and on about this game (sorry, I really like it) but since it comes out next Tuesday and the demo has dropped on Live!....well, it needs it's on thread.

Shit, I hope a thread hasn't been posted yet for it...impressions anyone? Reservations? Anyone psyched?

it looks fun, but the gameplay trailers have made me feel a little concerned about its repetitiveness. hopefully the demo will kill any worries.

what do you mean switch between plasmids and guns? Would you rather it just be one or the other?

I would think switching adds depth and it seems fairly innovative...I personally like the aspect, but I could def. see how a hardcore shooter would see this as a barrier...but then again that is what Halo 3 and COD4 are for!!

should I buy this for PC (athlon-64 fx-55 2.61 ghz, geforce 6800 ultra, 2 gig ram, etc) or Xbox

I could play on a 40" tv with top notch graphics on the xbox, or mouse/keyboard on PC. Dunno how well it'll run though.

you can't go wrong with the xbox version for the reason you just stated. i played the demo and i will say to you, if you haven't, this game is a beast when it comes t graphics. i am so glad that it lived up to the hype of its gameplay and graphics. it makes me so happy that i pre-ordered it.

I hear there is no multiplayer. That makes me think that this might make a better rental, no matter how good it is.

depends on whats unlockable; i would be willing to bet that ms has a trick or three up its sleeve with some kind of downloadable content. there is no way a popular game like this would not have an extra stab at your wallet. also, i have a stock collection of games, and this is going to be one of them.

all games have downloadable content these days...nickel and dime us to death

but there's no way that one of the "extras" is a multiplayer mode

i think that's crossing the line of shitty if they require you to pay an additional $10 to a multiplayer mode

very true

i just still get pissed when a game is released, and then $5 downloadable content is released 2 days later. It could have obviously been put in the game at release, but they want to turn a $60 game into an $80 game

well i mean sometimes it's worth it to own a top quality AAA single player game just becuase you want it in your catalog, so you can revisit and stuff. That's my take on it. I'm so blown away by the quality of this game that i can't imagine not having it if i have the system for it.

Also as far the PC version, I bet my PC could handle it - I have a newer rig with a C2D Intel and DX10 card and all that - but it just seems so sterile to play something as immersive and atomospheric as this sitting in my office chair on my computer with limited visual/audio setup. A game like this takes full advantage of a home theatre setup if ya got it. So *shrug*, either way though I suppose.

Good thing is the framerate on the 360 is rock solid, moves fluid, and is prolly the most impressive title to date besting or at the level of gears. The Unreal Engine is amazing...

to answer your question about switching between plasmids and guns, it seems like a step backwards. theres really no difference between switching weapons and having a weapon be "fire fist" or flopping back and forth between plasmids/regular weapons.

you say "requires more skill" or "innovative." i see it as clunky. whats the point of a magic arm if i cant go blastin fools while shooting. ive got limited ammo so that should prevent me from playing it like halo. it was particularly annoying when i needed to "reload" my plasmid. id be halfway through the animation and then switch and that progress was lost so i had to redo it.

other than that minor annoyance the game was very enjoyable though.

no i never said the either/or situation was particularly innovative...i just wanted you to clarify a bet. which you did - that makes sense.

I just saw it as adding a little challenge, but yeah, not very 'innovative' per se.

to be honest, i saw innovative somewhere in the thread and was too lazy to reread. im more of a twitch shooter fan, so i prefer that style even if it is in a moody shooter.

this game is HIGHLY immersive; not many games make you play an hour in a demo and you lose track of time. you have an indefinite plasmid combos, and i am sure they will be specific combos on the individual big daddy, afterall they are only mini-boss fights. the story tells a great story, even in the demo. the game is highly artistic, especially the weapon designs. controls are FINE tuned. graphics - no need to express any thought about this. this game may not be a twitch shooter, and i really don't like twitch shooters because they usually are shallow, and it may not be for everyone, but if anyone overlooks this game they have extremely poor taste in gamin in general and have lost any credibility in the gaming world in my opinion. also, in reality, NO game can innovative, especially a shooter. pretty much it has all been done, and they is really nothing special that you can do innovate anything, and anyone that says this game is a step backwards for the current gen is out of their mind.

if you dont see how the plasmid/weapons switching is potentially a step back, id say you are crazy. you may not agree, but it isnt an invalid argument. at least they have a radial weapon selection.

tell me how its a step backwards? what could they do to make is on par for current gen? i will answer for you - nothing. kind like saying a gun in 1900 and a gun in 2007 should not fire the same way when they both are guns! nothing about this game is a step backwards, and if you think so you are only kidding yourself.

you should be able to switch without a half second delay. hows that? oblivion did it just fine if im not mistaken.

i wouldnt complain if it didnt detract from my experience. i set off hte alarms an dhad to deal with helicopters swarming me. i zap one then blow it up with the gun. hit LT once to bring up my hand, again to shoot it. pause while i pull out my gun again, fire it, rinse repeat.

seems like i had no problems with weapons switching. if i recall correctly it seems like the game gives you an optino to put your weapons in the order that you like, so you can out your favorite weapons beside either other, and if this is case, depends on what is needed, you can switch the order of the weapons as needed. i could be wrong about this, but if this is correct, this is fairly innovative.

man come on now, you expect to be able to fire a weapons and use a plasmid at the same time?

shrug, i didnt mess with that. im still talking about switching between electro hand and minigun. id have just prefered that i didnt hav eto press the trigger once to "ready" my spells. that was morrowinds issue and they fixed it in oblivion.

[Edited on August 14, 2007 at 8:13 PM. Reason : again, still a fine game, but it just seems odd to have it that way]

yeah,, but i don't think this is intended to be thought of as magic, although it acts just like it. i think they did it for a reason, as it seems like it might make the game too easy.

thats an interesting theory. preventing you from quickly using it and limiting ammo would slow the game pace down a bit. feels more restrictive than fluid though. oh well, ill still buy or rent it.

i bet once you get use to it it will be very streamlined, if they let you put your weapons and plasmid in any order that you want. oh and there is an upgrade system. so telling what this has in store.

it took me an hour because i actually EXPLORED every crevice of the entire demo. i just did not want to see how the game was, i wanted to see how immersive the environment is. i even got drunk by drinking two bottles merlot in a row!

that demo was awesome

i love the AI, that it will run towards water when on fire

FYI, if anyone wants to play the demo on hard, just set up your gamer profile to automatically select the hard difficulty for games, and when you start up the demo, the cursor will be on hard. It says disabled, but all they disabled was the option to select it.

Basically hard mode makes you need an evo shot every 3rd plasmid use. I didn't notice better aim by the AI, but just much easier for you to die, and you'll run out of shock/fire pretty quickly.

It is nice to hack 2 or 3 bots though and have them shooting for you...makes it a lot easier. That is an odd mini-game though...what's the point of having hidden tiles? I didn't notice anything happening if I revealed the minimum amount or if I revealed every single tile on the map...maybe something that is in the real game and not the demo? I'm not sure.

Great way to end the demo by the way, definitely had me on the edge of my seat.

I think the minigame is kinda weird but its such a small part of the game. I think in the full version you can also unlock the 30fps cap to get a little better performance in spots...interested to see how that looks.

CANT WAIT (and i hate you Toys r' us for tempting me)
