There was just a Red Cross official on the radio...there IS NOT a shortage of blood. If you have already scheduled a blood donation for this week, you should keep that appointment; otherwise, it's not needed.

The need may be worse for volunteers than donor's themselves right now. I'm calling them shortly to see what they say. Since I am in the process of starting
a Red Cross Club here on NC State's Campus.

Update -- now they're saying they are extending local Red Cross hours until 12midnight...I guess they DO need it.

i want to give but cant i was just told......i went to mexico this summer--i cant appreciate that, they say i may have been exposed to malaria.....seems like i would be feeling some symptoms right now if so

oreo is the man, give blood everytime you can...not only during this time of crisis but anytime thereafter.....do you know that most of the blood used in large cities in the US is imported from european countries, thats the reason for the shortage--Foot and Mouth disease there has severly limited the supply of imported blood

Governor Mike Easley just asked everyone in north carolina to go give blood. Due to the restrictions of air craft travel there is no way to fly blood in and already one hospital near the coastal area has declared a blood shortage emergency =(

Whoever said there was not a need was severely misinformed. We are ALWAYS in a blood shortage. We have not had enough blood from our country in many many years. If you can, do it. I am not able to donate blood because I'm anemic (they won't take my blood because there aren't enough white blood cells) but I definitely do encourage EVERYBODY to donate. It is definitely neccessary.
