Question: is there a particular reason for the across-the-board homophobia in rap music? Seemingly "conscious" rappers are even known for spitting stuff like "...fuck that homo shit..." (Talib Kweli - Too Late). Just curious about both the obvious intentions as well as the possible latent sources...

I dislike the word "homophobia" as well - but as I understand it, its not the literal "fear of homosexuality" as much as it is "anti-homosexuality"... for example, vitamins that are hydrophobic versus hydrophilic... they don't hate water, but they are kinda anti-water.

Homosexuality is unpopular with said demographic for various socioeconomic reasons.

Thus rap artists are averse to homosexuality.
