Starts this friday the 15 at 10pm on Scifi. I was just reminded by the fact its season 1 finale was on NBC.
i think this series is freakin awesome, great plot lines along with better than most cgi, and some pretty good actors. i'm stoked for season 2 just because its been a long time since any good sci-fi shows came out and stayed good for a while....
(i'm thinkin sliders was the last time )

I'm just hoping things won't change too much since the Sci-Fi channel took over. 7/10/2005 1:49:50 AM |

^it would be hard.
there was also a movie on sci fi that sets up the series quite well. The first episode of season 1 is a good first episode, too.
I suggest getting it from bit torrent. 7/10/2005 7:07:01 AM |

The Sci-Fi channel is where the season 1 originally aired. NBC just showed a few episodes to give the new series some face time before season 2 comes out.7/10/2005 10:08:49 AM |

Sky One in Britain showed the miniseries months before the Sci-Fi channel did so I assumed it was british made, however I just checked IMDB and noticed that Sci-Fi is listed as one of the production companies, so apparently they had a hand in it from the beginning. I did also notice that most of the creative forces behind the show are the same so there shouldn't be many changes.7/10/2005 2:21:06 PM |

The show costs a shit load to make. Therefore United States' Sci Fi and the UK's Skyone split the cost of it. So the show is basically owned by two nations. 7/10/2005 2:59:45 PM |

Kinda odd that there goal is finding a stationary home base, meaning that they are vunerable from attack. 7/10/2005 5:05:55 PM |

Well, no. In the original series, they were searching for Earth in the hopes that they could either outrun and escape the Cylons, or that the "lost tribes of man" would be strong enough to help them turn back the Cylons. I'm not entirely sure what the motivation is in the new series since I have had to piece together quite a few episodes that I've missed... I was under the impression from the first few that Adama was just bluffing and that there never really was any earth. Do they have evidence to the contrary now? I seem to recall in the last episode that Starbuck went back to Caprica for an artifact which would give credence to that? 7/10/2005 5:28:54 PM |
Lowjack All American 10491 Posts user info edit post |
^you really need to watch the eps.
Adama was indeed bluffing. however, the president chick has been having visions of earth and she has worked toward getting them to earth. Basically, this just happened in the finale. Starbuck is also helping the prez find Earth.
I read an article (http://salon.com/ent/feature/2005/07/09/battlestar_galactica/index.html) that actually claims that the people in the fleet are Earth's ancestors, not descendants. I didn't pick up on that in anything I saw, though.

I think if they can make it as far as finding earth, a really good launch for the next season would be to take the fight back to the cylons.
Though I dont know whats going on with the doctor and the hot chick. It seems it is a cylon human hybrid or something involving a child me thinks. 7/10/2005 8:07:21 PM |

I kinda of skimmed that article because it was written in kind of a fruity way, but it seems to me that the humans in Battlestar Galactica are neither ancestors nor descendants, but more of contemporaries that were "seeded" a bit earlier in the universe than us Earthlings by some greater race/gods.7/11/2005 1:39:02 AM |

Both survived...but they're presumed dead. 7/14/2005 8:33:12 AM |
Axelay All American 6276 Posts user info edit post |
In the original series, the Battlestar Pegasus DID survive the attack on Caprica. The Pegasus is commanded by Cain, who is considered to be the single most brilliant tactician in the Colonial fleet. He was played by Lloyd Bridges.
While on a patrol, fighters from the Galactica come under attack from Cylons and are rescued by other unknown Vipers stationed on the Pegasus. Just as Baltar thinks he has the Galactica on the ropes, the Pegasus enters the battle and turns the tide. The Pegasus and the Galactica join forces to launch a surprise offensive against the Cylons and capture one of their fueling and munitions stations. Baltar gets so pissed that he sends 3 Base Stars after both Battlestars (once he learns that the Cylon Imperious Leader is involved in the assault). In the end, Cain goes nose-to-nose with all 3 Base Stars in an effort to allow the Galactica time to escape. He takes out 2 of them, but it's not known whether or not the Pegasus escaped before taking out the third.
So yeah, Cain is BAD ASS. I would seriously love to see him in this new series. 7/14/2005 1:22:53 PM |

but seriously, i don't think the show can go on too long, because it has an ultimate aim which can't really be fulfiilled while keeping the show going...

i disagree and thought it was a great start to Season 2. not only did it make shit interesting with Starbuck now on Caprica, but it gave a great insight into Tigh's background. character development is what will make this series great. 7/16/2005 2:06:56 PM |

in their defense, it might have been 5 minutes since they jumped away and the last scene. Also, they said the deck was decompressed, so it could be hard for people to get there just yet. I suppose that is all plausible/

There's not law that says shows have to run for 10 seasons. If they only ran for 1 season, with the intention of lasting 1 season, with a great story, I would be happy with that (like a lot of anime seems to be like Cowboy Bebop and Trigun, etc.).
Anyway, i watched the Stargate Atlantis premiere and the Battlestar premier, and Battlestar was MUCH better. Stargate was good, but they pulled out too much BS, I think... the humans need to get beat around more than they do. I haven't bothered getting the regular Stargate premiere yet. 7/17/2005 2:42:36 AM |
