<3

is it just the full moon or is everyone an asshole around here

aside from the obvious checking the jumper, find the latest version of your bios and flash it. if that doesn't work through the computer out the window. posting the exact model of dell dimension you have would speed things up too

generally everyone is an asshole cause of the whole "all mightier than thou" complex, esp on this board and this forum. u'll learn that very fast.

but i can empathize a bit regarding this topic cause it is a very basic, easily googled 1. it wouldnt take long to look up but its still no reason to jump all over someone for not doin it. but hey, whatever gets 1 off.

I looked it up, still didn't work

I thought about it for a second, and realized I needed a controller card. so I guess it was something that everyone overlooked, including me

got the card, the drive was recognized, but still had errors. so I thought it was just bad clusters. I ran maxtor's powermax utility, and it gave me the diagnostic error code. looked that up on maxtor's website, and they said I just need to send the drive back to them so they could replace it

I had this same problem with my Dell Dimesion. (XPS 8100)

Use the CD that came with the HD to install the BIOS drivers so it'll recognize it on bootup.

that didn't work for me

it's recognized now, it just has errors all the time. when i try to format it, the process fails

or if the format doesn't fail immediately, it will after I actually write on the drive

and TypeA, please keep your faggotry in chit chat

^^^^^ Before you send it back, try a low-level format and then recheck the drive with PowerMax. I've had a couple of drives that PowerMax claimed were 'bad.' I did a low-level format and they've worked great since.
