hmm...

-the big power outage spring 2001 on the day of the ncaa bball championship. i got power back in owen and watched duke win, then smoked blounts in carroll all evening in the dark. Smoking blounts in carroll was a big highlight for freshman year
-gator bowl. Much of my family was there, in green. I got set up with a free hotel room at the beach with a 24 hour taxi service that my friends parents set up. I threw up jaeger in the pool.
-going to basketball games. this is special to me since i am one of like 6 people that ever actually went. saw some crucial losses(maryland, wake back to backbuzzer beaters) but beating #1 duke in the snow was sweet
-going to football games. i think i was one of 4 freshman who didnt go home for the arkansas state game in 01. I was with my gf in the rain. First impressions: this rivers guy needs to work on his aim, 2nd impression: we suck at football. Glad i was wrong, kind of. GT 01 was sweet, beating FSU, etc. Staying up all night the night before for noon games. Kegs and pigs at 8am. having buses escort us

i've always though that my friends who went to schools without big d1 sports programs had to have had a totally different (and inferior, in my opinion) college experience than me 'cause college athletics and going to games was such a big part of college for me

the number of sporting events that are making everyone's top 5 lists in this thread sort of validates my belief

college without football and bball games would've sucked

1) I was at the FSU game when we beat them at CF in 98, but I had to leave as one of my friends got sick and she needed a ride back to campus.
2) The Blizzard
3) 9/11 I was doing student teaching that semester. I was in a method's class when it happened. We were supposed to have a cookout before we left for the schools, but instead of eating I went straight to work. I remember my students seeing me and thinking someone had died.
4) Hurricane Game...There were very few of us that stayed in the student section during halftime.
5) Staying up all night before the final exam in my History of Math class with all the other people in the class.

I suck at ranking things, but

- The looks on my parents faces the day the moment they left me in the dorms for the first time. I think they were more scared than I was.
- Football away against Clemson, 2002 I think was, 30 people crammed into my dorm room in Syme to watch the game (and it was a heckuva good one)
- Rushing the court against Duke in 03, taking my mom to the WF game later that year (she STILL talks about how great is was and how loud she got to yell After the Duke game, we didn't think, and we drove down Hillsborough back to campus. In front of Two Guys, we see a wave of people coming and just stop the car, put the windows up, lock the doors, and sit while three to five minutes worth of screaming, running people passed the car by. It was unlike anything else I have ever experienced.
- Hitting the refresh button over and over again on tickets.ncsu.edu and my email program waiting find out if I got (@&$*(@&#% tickets already!
- Making the first C of my college career (and life) and screaming for joy because I couldn't believe that I had somehow passed
- My first visit to the lab I've worked in for two years...and my last time in there since we're moving out to Pylon drive for this year
- Cookout at 2 AM after finishing papers
- The night the WereWolf driver decided to try to do a three point turn on a tiny road near Blue Ridge at 12:30 in the morning and I was certain I would die
- My first NHL hockey game, and a few years later, the last time I got to see Mike Richter play; also watching the 2002 winter olympics until the wee hours in the dorms
- the first test I slept through, and the first exam I overslept for (professors are the most gracious people in the universe when you get down to it...)
- Golden Dragon with my first roomie every Saturday night of our freshman year

-OH! Almost forgot, my first month at State. I met this drunk girl up at Jillian's during college night, took her back to her dorm room, fucked her that night, fell asleep, fucked her again early that morning, took a $20 bill off her dresser for being her chauffer, and bounced. Never saw her again, but I remembered her AIM name and have kept her on my buddy list the last 3.5 years just for the hell of it without ever IM'ing her.

1. Watching CC Harrison and crew go into the Dean Dome and dismantle the #1 ranked Tar Heels.
2. Tasting pepper spray after the football team beat up on Florida State for the first time.
3. Having the girl of my dreams throw up in my hair to cap off the worst night of my life(Duke campout, 1998).
4. Making fun of my boys individually as 4 of them eventuall hooked up with a gal affectionately known in my circle as "the beer whore."
5. Playing football in the snow with some of the finest people I ever knew and then trudging to the Waffle House.
