NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY TO HOST "JEOPARDY!" COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIP
CULVER CITY, CA (July 28, 2005) – Jeopardy! producers announced plans today for the Emmy award-winning quiz show to tape its 2005 Jeopardy! College Championship at the RBC Center at North Carolina State University in Raleigh on October 1st and 2nd. Featuring fifteen students from some of the nation's top colleges, the tournament will pay off with a grand prize of $100,000 in cash to the Champion. The episodes will air nationally from November 7th – 18th, 2005 (check local listings for station and time). Locally, the series airs on ABC11 at 7:00pm.
"The Raleigh-Durham-Fayetteville area is a great college-oriented community including many of the country's finest educational institutions," said Jeopardy! Executive Producer Harry Friedman. "Essentially, it's an ideal location and a complementary fit to host the 2005 Jeopardy! College Championship. We've been working for several years with our partners at ABC11 to make this a truly memorable event."
"We are absolutely thrilled to bring a national treasure like Jeopardy! to North Carolina for the first time," ABC11 President and General Manager Bernie Prazenica said. "It is a tremendous opportunity to showcase to millions of viewers around the world our exceptional colleges and universities, as well as our wonderful communities, friends and neighbors that make this such a special place to live."
"It's only natural that great achievers assemble in Raleigh and the Research Triangle for the Jeopardy! College Championship," said James L. Oblinger, chancellor of North Carolina State University. "We're pleased to serve as the host campus for the championship and display to the nation our world-class academic community."
This year's College Champion is guaranteed a $100,000 cash prize, and a specially designed trophy. The second place contestant is guaranteed a minimum of $50,000, and third place pockets a minimum of $25,000. In the first week, each player will appear in one of the five episodes. The winners of each of these shows, along with the next four highest money earners, will go on to the semi-finals. In the second week, the nine semi-finalists will compete in three episodes for a place in the two-game final match. (Semi-finalists receive $10,000, and players eliminated in the first week receive $5,000.)
Tickets for the general public will be made available for the tapings. Beginning July 29th, Jeopardy! fans may pick up ticket applications at participating Leith Automotive dealers throughout the area or in advertisements in the News and the Observer and the Fayetteville Observer. For more information and details, please visit http://www.jeopardy.com, http://www.abc11tv.com or call the Jeopardy! hotline at (919) 682-WTVD (9883). Ticket entries must be postmarked no later than August 22nd.
In late August, the Jeopardy! contestant team will spend six days in the North Carolina area auditioning students from local colleges and universities interested in being on the show. The "Brain Bus" events will take place on campus at the following schools:
AUGUST 23: North Carolina State University; Raleigh, NC 12:00-2:30pm AUGUST 25: Fayetteville State University; Fayetteville, NC 12:00-2:30pm AUGUST 27: Multi-College event at The Streets of Southpoint Mall; Durham, NC 10:00-2:30pm (The event above is open to all undergraduate college students) AUGUST 30: University of North Carolina; Chapel Hill, NC 11:30-2:00pm AUGUST 31: North Carolina Central University; Durham, NC 12:00-2:30pm SEPTEMBER 1: Duke University; Durham, NC 11:30-2:00pm
Jeopardy!, has won 25 Emmy awards since its debut in 1984, including this year's award for Outstanding Game Show. It was recently listed among "The Greatest Game Shows of All Time" by TV Guide, and continues to be a ratings champion. The series is the #1-rated quiz show in syndication, and has held that title for over 1,000 weeks.
Jeopardy! is produced by Sony Pictures Television, a Sony Pictures Entertainment Company, and is distributed domestically by King World Productions, Inc The U.S. episodes are distributed internationally by CBS Broadcast International (CBI). King World International Productions, a subsidiary of CBI, sells and produces format versions worldwide. 7/29/2005 9:27:07 AM |

I was with 2 friends and they filmed us doing it, as well as a group of 4 girls in front of the atrium. Got a free sportsbottle for doin it, jus hummed the jeopardy tune, should be on tv this week/next.

For regular Jeopardy the auditioning goes something like this: You go and take a general knowledge/trivia test. No idea how many questions or how long it takes. If you score well enough, the throw you into a mock Jeopardy game. If you do well there (probably in both points and personality) then I think you get on the list of contestants for the show. 8/7/2005 2:07:07 PM |

there can't be a personality requirement... when someone's "wacky" thing about themselves is they have 3 hamsters or their favorite color is chartreuse or their kid did something cute this morning, that signifies otherwise to me. 8/7/2005 2:15:30 PM |

They had a 10-question "pre-test" at from 12-2pm for anyone interested. About 100ish folks got 7 or more right on that one and took the standard test they give folks in Cali at 5pm. You had to get 35 out of 50 for that, which whiddled the room down to about 10 folks. They'll be staying behind for interviews, and also to play a practice version of the game.
IIRC one of the contestant people said something about folks could try out for the adult version of the game while the Brain Bus is in town. not sure how exactly, but I'd come to the one @ Southpoint on Saturday and see what to do if you're interested

It was actually closer to 200ish people whittled down to 9. I think they are taking 6 more from a 730 seating of folks that passed the pre-test.
Also, what he said was once you are 18 you are eligible to try for the regular version of the game. If you got to stick around, you were apparently thrown into the eligible contestant pool, which is likely to be 100 or more people from all across the country 8/23/2005 8:24:05 PM |
