So my ancient mobo finally burnt out and I'm looking for a replacement. I figure I might as well upgrade my processor while I'm at it, but it's been a while so I'm not quite sure which one I'm going to get.
I know I'm going with AMD, but I'm having trouble deciding between a Semperon Core or a NewCastle. I was looking at the AMD Semperon 3300+ (not 64-bit) - 130$ish or the AMD NewCastle 3000+ (64-bit) - 165$ish.
What have you heard about Semperon? Is it the bastard child of the AMD series, and should I just go with the 64-bit processor? Make a recomendation.

well the only reason I ask is because I'm poor and unemployed, thus making cost one of the major factors in my decision. 8/3/2005 6:00:15 PM |

thinking about selling my a64 3000+ (Winchester 939) and upgrading to a 3700+ or 3800+ (because i can't overclock on this board). if you're interested, let me know. 8/3/2005 6:19:55 PM |

If you go with an Athlon 64, then I would get a Winchester or Venice core. No reason to get Newcastle. They are about the same price. 8/3/2005 6:55:17 PM |
