my parents are gonna buy me a laptop, but they have to buy it in the next 4 hours because they are returning a comp they got from best buy and want to get it then.
Where is the best place to buy laptops? refurbished from ebay? some website? bestbuy? donde? thanksssssssssssssssss
oh. and I don't wanna spend more than ~700 preferably ~500 cause I don't need it for games, just watching dvds and internet and dling music etc
heres the one from bestbuy http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=999940100050002&type=product&productCategoryId=cat15157&id=pcmprd40300050002

If you are in the college of engineering and in that kind of crunch time, NC State (all come with 3 yr warranty) http://www.fis.ncsu.edu/ncsubookstores/pdf/CoE_order_form.pdf
If you can wait for the next dell laptop deal on http://www.slickdeals.net, you can get the same laptop for a lot cheaper. $600 off $1499 inspirons and $750 off $1799 inspirons.
But looking at your budget, you are already limited to a Celeron Mobile. Basically dell and best buy are the only ones that can take care of that low of a budget that quickly. And I would definitley recommend dell over best buy. 8/10/2005 11:48:31 AM |

I recommend Dell over Best Buy also. Dell is very customizable and have very good deals with hundreds off their laptops on techbargains or similiar websites. If you do buy one at Best Buy DO NOT buy an EMachine they may look fast, but they are pieces of shit. Be careful with those pos's. 8/10/2005 11:52:55 AM |

you aint gonna find a laptop worth owning from bestbuy for ~700 bucks, much less 500.
They dont have to do shit in 4 hours. Return the damn computer, get the money back and go find a DECENT machine.
^Bullshit. The emachine M68xx series laptops are DAMN good laptops, especially for what they cost. You don't have any fucking idea what you are talking about. But they are out of jubjub's price range anyway.

thats your opinion and I gave him mine. Everyone knows what EMachines are known for low price and decent quality. My Dell has a 2 year plan to where if I drop the damn thing they send me a new one, I love that. I know that has nothing to do with quality but is a perk of having a Dell. I owned a EMachine desktop and man that thing was a POS my preacher also had one and we had components on that thing going out like christmas lights.
But maybe the desktops are worse than the laptops?

i've never had a laptop, what kind of battery do I need? these are off a dell notebook
standard >>>>>6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery (53 WHr) upgrade >>>>>>>9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery (80 WHr) [add $99 or $3/month1] Spend more time unplugged
and what about the screens? standard 15.4 inch WXGA LCD Panel upgrade 15.4 inch UltraSharp WSXGA+ LCD Panel [add $125 or $4/month1] Dell Recommended upgradeupgrade 15.4 inch UltraSharp WUXGA LCD Panel [add $175 or $6/month1]
do i need to shell out to save my eyesight? i can throw in a few hundred bucks to my parents 500-700 if it means getting a decent comp instead of a pos 8/10/2005 12:03:43 PM |

I have the WUXGA Screen and I love it but you probably do not need the thing I just got it because I wanted it. I also have the 9 Cell Lithium Ion which is probably a good idea for battery life. It all depends on your wallet. But I looooove my screen. 8/10/2005 12:05:17 PM |

check http://www.slickdeals.net everyday until another Dell laptop deal comes up. Then buy it. Makes things a lot easier.

This is exactly why I called you out on it. Their desktops are shit because they use(d) all factory reconditioned parts. Hence why the shit was so cheap.
Their laptops on the other hand are all brand new from an ODM manufacturer in Asia. It's the same laptop that Gateway sells as well (for a little more money).
Big difference.8/10/2005 12:08:56 PM |

^^^^ the differences in those screens is the native screen resolution.. obviously the WUXGA is going to have the highest native resolution.. so things will look crisper, but will also be a little smaller.. but you'll be able to fit 'more' on the screen

well the battery you need depends on how long you think you will go between recharges.
those screens are more or less just the number of pixels your screen has. WXGA 1280 x 720 WSXGA+ 1680 x 1050 WUXGA 1920 x 1200
and to give you a reference, 17" flat panel LCDs are 1280 x 1024. Picture quality will be better with higher resolutions, but I know you won't need WUXGA for what you're doing.
