I have a computer at a customers site that they need to be on 24/7 and if the power fails, automatically boot up. It's a Dell Precision 670 and recently they had a power blip that shut the computer down, and someone had to go turn it back on. I haven't put the UPS on the system yet, but if the power is out for beyond the capabilities of the UPS and the power returns is there anything I can do to the BIOS or Windows 2000 pro to have it turn itself on or will I have to rewire the switch? 8/10/2005 9:10:53 PM |

yeah try with the bios settings like he suggested. also, when you get the UPS, check to see what settings it may have (anything will require you to have a bios that supports it if it has to do with powering on a fully off system though.) if the UPS does ethernet surge protection like most, it could have the ability to wake the system over lan, but I doubt it. if that were the case you could set that in the bios and have the ups wake the system when power was restored after its battery was drained. 8/10/2005 9:28:59 PM |

thanks, wake on lan will probably work as it's connected to another device that polls it for a timeSync 8/10/2005 10:00:36 PM |
