because no man/woman pair has EVER married for any reason other than pure love
people act like there's going to be a huge rush of straight people marrying each other for tax reasons or insurance reasons...
i think they're up to one reported case of this so far? compared to how many people enter into "marriages of convenience" every damned year?

Marriage is defined as the union of a man and woman UNDER GOD. Add in religious zealots in the government and Marriage will NEVER be used to define a union of a man and a woman. The other side of the coin is that gays/lesbians keep fighting to use the word marriage for some stupid fucking reason.
The new fight is to call it a Union. It would be recognized by the government for tax reasons and give the couple all the rights hereto of it. However, this isn't getting too much push because the over zealous gays/lesbians want it called marriage in writing so you have a deadlock. 8/15/2005 10:28:02 AM |

if marriage is a religious institution, what right does the government have to regulate or dis/allow it?
how is that not discriminatory, and unconstitutional? 8/15/2005 12:01:11 PM |

^b/c we are foolish enough to use the same term, marriage, for civil and religious unions when in fact two distinct recognitions/ceremonies are taking place. Add the fact that most people (gay and straight) are too ignorant to know that there is a difference, and you become embroiled in ideological conflict. 8/15/2005 12:09:07 PM |

Nope, there is a judicially created "public policy exception" to the Full Faith and Credit Clause which allows states to assert their own strongly held public policy ideas as against acts of other states.8/18/2005 5:55:09 PM |

My homophobic tendacies move me to be for gay marriage in the obvious resulting decrease of single gay men prancing about. Man has never truly spoken for god nor will ever so you can get that holy union crap out of here. I dont care if you mary your mother, it's called freedom, something this country has been choking the life out of recently.
