the dos prompt window in XP doesnt count of course.

Ill openly admit i dont know jack shit about DOS.
But i do know:
i need to run a program oustide of windows
that program resides on my primary hard disk
that program needs access to my cd-rom drives AND my other hard disk so it can copy files
---
yeah i used the nero backup program without understanding the ramifications

these files are incredibly important to me

Not positive I'm understanding you but I think you could reboot, and do whatever it is you have to do to get to safemode, like F8 or F5 or whatever, and HOPEFULLY you will get a prompt asking you if you want to go to SafeMode, go to SafeMode Command Prompt only, or SafeMode Command Line with Networking Support. Choose the Command prompt only.

nero did help a little with its bootable cd burning utillity. cranks up the computer without any fucking ramdrive and i can still reference my floppy and everything for whatever

i managed to salvage the files btw. i just had to think really hard about if i wanted to strap a pound of improperlly mixed smokeless gunpowder to it

yeah im simply too thickheaded to get it in my brain which boot disks and tools let me view ntfs.
NOBODY can boot their computer as fast and with as little usefullness as i can
