did you add dell upgrades to the machine? if so, i would see about getting the base line dell before upgrades, then compare how much the upgrades cost on something like http://www.newegg.com and see if it's any cheaper that way.
dell's can be cheap, but when you start throwing on all those upgrades, that price starts to climb fast. 8/23/2005 11:52:37 AM |

and why're eMachines so cheap? 8/23/2005 11:53:04 AM |

did the dell come with a monitor or lcd? cause neither of those sony's do according to the pics
often dell's deals will include a free/cheap lcd or monitor
emachines are cheap cause they are cheap. i've heard that their laptops do better than their desktops, but their desktops are pieces of junk. that's the way it used to be. i haven't kept up with things, so that could have changed. 8/23/2005 11:54:56 AM |

what do you think is the best processor? 8/23/2005 11:56:22 AM |

i wouldn't buy a gateway if my life depended on it. too many friends have had problems with them and major headaches with their customer service.
sony's can be great, but be careful of their warranty periods and policies
dell definately has the best in terms of customer service, warranty, and repair. 8/23/2005 11:56:45 AM |

intel or amd are about the same. amd is generally cheaper. intel usually runs cooler. intel used to be considered more stable, but i don't think that is the case any more
64bit processor is kinda overrated right now i think. not enough software to really support it. it'll be hella cheaper in a year or two and there will be software out to support it.
i'm really talking out my ass right now. noen or rougeleader would be the ones to ask. I used to be big on the cutting edge computer and upgrading ever year or two. since then i've realized that i just don't use the power and having the latest is really just a waste of money. i do fine with my 1.3ghz laptop with 512M ram since all i do is internet, office apps, and piddly games.
if you want to reduce your price, examine what you really use the computer for, then don't get a powerhouse to do something that a midline computer can do the same. 8/23/2005 12:00:35 PM |
