Mission: Impossible = spy movie
not special forces commando action shit
you could remake the first movie with new people and it would be better than the 2nd one at this point 8/24/2005 8:47:37 AM |

Haven't you learned? Hollywood only has room for one spy/secret agent/assasin. All the other spy adaptations end up being stupid action shooter films. Just take a look at who is playing Agent 47 in the upcoming Hitman film. 8/24/2005 1:06:25 PM |

they should dump vin diesel and go with jason statham instead. he seems like he could pull off agent 47 much more convincingly. either him or christopher walken just because he's awesome.8/25/2005 2:10:23 AM |

^i'd be willing to bet "The Transporter" is either the reason they didn't offer it to him, or the reason he wouldn't do it 8/25/2005 8:03:52 AM |

Wow the transporter. I'll never see that one beyond the commercial. An over the hill dude beating people with accessories in ways that take more effort than it would be for him to just - you know - use his fists. All that and he is paired with a dog of a woman that bumps Courtney Love up from the bottom face on the totem pole. Oh, and it is a cash in sequel to boot. No thanks.
MI3? What people liked MI2 enough to merit a part 3? <sarcasm>I'll go see part 3 as long as it has some guy pulling off a fake face every time they need to move the story along or introduce a new plot point.</sarcasm> 8/25/2005 12:40:06 PM |

^ Yeah, but then all those months of training on how to beat people with a fire hose would go to waste.
Jackie Chan can pull it off because it is tounge-in-cheek. Transporter can't because they are trying to be serious about it. 8/26/2005 7:04:57 AM |
Wraith All American 27257 Posts user info edit post |
^I don't think they are trying to be serious with the fight scenes, I think they are just trying to show of really good choreography. They are deliberately being far-fetched about it. 8/26/2005 7:25:42 AM |

i actually prefer someone seeming to purposefully use something as a weapon instead of acting suprised 40 times a movie when they accidentially hit somebody in the head with a bucket and then jump through a small hole in something (and looking suprised again)
That stuff had it's place in movies like Lord Dragon, but to say that it's being "pulled off" now is a bit of a stretch
I don't know if it's just because i had zero expectations for it when I watched it the first time, but I'd put Transporter up there at the top of my list for action movies
On topic: MI 1 and 2 were crap and this one is going to be worse8/26/2005 8:51:13 AM |

I prefer watching fighting like in The Transporter or Unleashed as opposed to Jackie Chans stuff. Thats not to detract from his abilities, hes a talented martial artist athelete, but its just too goofy now. I've grown up from his brand of movies. 8/26/2005 9:06:00 AM |

MI1 was really good. MI2 was....not so good. It was watchable, but it was extremely predictable (as in, I could guess when somebody was wearing a mask). I also thought it was pretty ghetto how Tom Cruise went from just being a really clever and resourceful secret agent to some action superhero who was pulling off Matrix-style shit (which I guess is no surprise, since it did come out after The Matrix, so there was obviously some copy-catting within that regard). 8/26/2005 9:54:30 AM |
