Lets actually keep this semi serious..
1. Clean your air filter 2. Don't accelerate to quickly 3. Try to keep a constant speed 4. Maintain your car 5. Carpool 6. Fuel Injector Cleaner, not sure if it works, but eh. 7. Cut back on AC 9/2/2005 5:55:39 PM |

Yes, bike, walk, public transport etc are good options, but if you have to drive, at least drive with common sense.
btw..Anyone with knowledge know if those fuel injector cleaners actually work? 9/2/2005 7:04:57 PM |

lol, i saw one fucker on the news saying if your air pressure is off by more than like 5psi it could create a 1% change in fuel mileage

A good fuel injector cleaner is Redline Fuel System Cleaner. It actually works unlike the "Jet Fuel" STP stuff you can get from Wal-Mart. You can also just put a can of SeaFoam in your gas tank, but you should probably change your fuel filter after your next fill up. Changing your fuel filter might help fuel mileage as well as changing the PCV valve. 9/2/2005 8:07:18 PM |

^I guess the theory is the more you slow down the more you have to speed up... but if its meaning slowly slow down before stop lights that you're going to have to stop at anyways, then thats just retarded 9/2/2005 8:58:58 PM |

^ding. Coasting to red lights instead of gasing it then coming to an abrupt halt as an example.
Cutting back on AC is only good when driving in the city. On the interstate run your ac and keep the windows up.
Just popped in a new airfilter and I saved 4 mpg. Curious if the K&N drop in would have saved more. 9/2/2005 9:23:41 PM |

Water injection. I don't know how much it will help, though. Seriously thinking about cobbling up my own just for the fuck of it, seein's how I've been going through about 75 bucks a week for gas. Even more now. 9/2/2005 10:52:50 PM |

I would feel more confident that manually misting water into your intake and revving the motor (old trick) would do a better job at cleaning combustion deposits than throwing some seafoam in the tank

how much do you guys think cruise control helps on the highway? Any? 9/4/2005 12:26:45 AM |

cruise control helps because it tries to maintain your speed at the lowest throttle/rpm range much more precise at doing that than your foot so it is a decent bit of mileage help. 9/4/2005 1:20:41 AM |

A good air filter (K&N) will flow more air and last longer than a cheap one.
In regards to fuel injector cleaner, Chevron Techron is really good stuff... but it's not a good idea to use it unless you know your fuel filter is clean. If your fuel filter is grimed up, then the fuel cleaner can dislodge the gunk in the filter, and cause your injectors to get even dirtier. So, for a clean fuel line, replace your fuel filter and THEN use fuel injector cleaner (but only use the good stuff... Techron or maybe Redline, the rest is crap). It might require two subsequent tanks with fuel injector cleaner to work.
Another thing you should do is buy good, clean gas. BP/Amoco was rated the best in a survey a while back. I'll also use Chevron, since they add Techron to their fuel. Dirty gas (Shell...) can really gunk up your lines.

I've been really tempted lately to try and lean out my SAFC for gas mileage... obviously pinging on a rotary wouldn't be a good idea, especially with my timing advanced. Right now I think i have +5% correction up through about 4000 rpm, and I think on the dyno that was running 13:1 or so . 9/4/2005 11:11:12 PM |

All gas comes in the same pipeline, and it is ALL THE SAME. The only difference is the additives.
How it works is they put oil in the line (rent it for a certain amount), then they can take out the other end immediatly, so the actual gas they put in isnt what they get.9/5/2005 12:08:27 PM |

Another way to save gas is to plan your routes. If there's a way through the city that takes less distance than travelling part way through the city, then taking the highway, then travelling partway through the city again, figure out which way uses less actual gas. I did that and figured I could save between .05-.1 gallons of gas per trip to my parents house by just taking buck jones to Cary. 9/5/2005 11:20:45 PM |

If you want your fuel injectors cleaned, pull them off the fuel rail and send them to RC engineering. It's like $30/injector. That'll clean them definately but you're not gonna save much money obviously due to the upfront expense. I've gotta send my 550's in to get cleaned because they're a bit leaky. 9/5/2005 11:57:37 PM |

I don't know if that's true or not (I do believe you), but there must be some other factors that go into the cleanliness of the gasoline then... the procedures in which they fill the tanks, the cleanliness of the trucks, etc.9/6/2005 12:48:14 AM |

if you sit too long with the AC on, the pressure in the compressor will build up and it will blow the back out of it. We did it at work and the damn compressor blew the fuck up.
Every once in a while, drive down the road a mile or so and the pressure will release. 9/6/2005 8:55:38 AM |
