I went to Cingular, my service provider, to try and get a contract waiver so I can get a reduced price on a phone because mine is essentially busted. They said it would cost me $7 less than the full price for the phone AND I would still have to extend the contract.

So I'm thinking I could find a phone on ebay or newegg or ubid, but I wanted to get some opinions first.

Anyone had a good or bad experience with this option?

Any help would be appreciated.

^ Same here. Just make sure to Get an unlocked GSM phone. Stick your SIM in and then you're ready to rock.

So I got one coming from ebay. Is it possible that my phone will be vulnerable to cloning/hacking/etc?
