I thought I saw on here yesterday someone posted that you could buy an i pod nano for under 200....like 175, if you had a student discount or something. Anyone Know about that?

Go to apple.com and there's a section for their educational store. Easy to figure out from there.

The discounts are usually fairly substantial, but i cant comment on that particular price.

http://store.apple.com/1-800-780-5009/WebObjects/EducationIndividual?type=higherEd (select "standard store for education" and you won't have to log in)

$179 and $229

or go to the Apple Store at Southpoint Mall and show them your student ID

or you could just walk into the bookstore and buy one, they have them in stock last I checked. or you could drve out to southpoint and get one there too. if you show your university ID (if you're still a senior like your profile says) you'll get one. you pay tax either way though, since apple has a presence in NC.

^ seems like a good way to deal with the nano's cosmetic durability.

after reading this review:

http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/nano.ars

I think that's the only thing you could really worry about.

ebay. the regular ones that come with the ipod aren't for sale. you can normally only get the contoured ones or the ones that come with the inline remote.

yeah, get some sennheiser's (mx500?) or even high end sony's if you want decent earbuds. otherwise go for the sennheiser px200's or something.

well, whatever, if somebody wants some of the ones that come with an ipod, they're here for free...and if anybody saw my ipod get up and walk out the door, it'd be wonderful if you'd return some of the data on it...you can keep the ipod tho, thanks.

My nano does scratch... very easily. But I use it to work out with, not to impress people with my impeccable looking ipod nano. I bought it because of it's size... I can put it in my shorts pocket and run and it won't drag my shorts down.

yeah but it does make it harder for the user to read the screen. easy scratching isn't something you can just shrug off just b/c you're not showing it off to others.

I bought the Invisible Shield for my nano, and it was an awful bitch to get it on properly. You have to get the film slightly wet with a soapy solution, and apply it to your iPod like a decal. Once it is in place, you have to squeegie it with a credit card to get the excess water from underneath (a very SMALL amount of water mind you)

during the squeegie process, the decal tends to slide a little, and when its not ligned up exactly right you have to peel it back off immediatly and start over

The good part of it is that my nano successfully survived a 12-day trip through Europe in my pocket, and daily use without a single scratch. And in addition to the invisible shield, you can buy any iPod cover/case/holster/etc to further protect your iPod

My big complaint with the damn thing is that when I plug it in to sync with iTunes sometimes it will sometimes it won't. I end up messing with it for half an hour to get the damn thing to work.

You can see the scratches when the thing is off. When the color screen is on, you can see what you need to. The scratching isn't a big deal.

wow half you guys are fucking complete idiots. the defect is substantial. after about 2 months of use the screen is basically unreadable. that is something to whine and complain about dumb fuckers. as far as the dumbass said:

there's no denying the nano scratches beyond usability... funny thing is i went to the apple store to check it out and ALL their on-display nano's were scratched so bad you could barely see the text on screen

sad thing is a slightly different material, or just a polymer coating of some sort would solve it for pennies a unit. I find it hard to beleive that apple did not test it enough to realize it would have this problem. I also find it hard to beleive they knowingly shipped it with the defect when the fix would seem so simple and inexpensive. Probably some middle level VP really fucked up and got lazy and is on his way to being tossed out.
