hmmm, Dashboard.... you mean people still use that?

seriously though - I would use it more if it was faster, snappier, etc. For it to be useful to me, it has to be nearly instant when I activate it, while not hogging 1/2 my memory at the same time. At the stupid widgets have to stay up today and not give stupid no-connection errors or whatever.

btw - the download link from Apple for that widget is 404....

actually this one looks pretty cool - http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/games/saycheese.html to view comics that don't have an RSS feed
they seriously need to do some dashboard updates though. need different layers, static widgets on the desktop, etc. just look at Konfabulator Yahoo Widgets.

Dashboard is about as useless as Spotlight. For some reason Spotlight doesn't index my .tex files (plain ascii file with LaTeX commands in it) nor does it index the PDF files generated from LaTeX. These files make up about 95% of what I want to search, which makes it useless for me.

For Dashboard, everything runs pretty quickly, although all I have on there is the Weather and the Dictionary

yeah, i guess dashboard is pretty quick if you use it regularly, just as long as you don't look at your System Monitor and see the redonkulous amounts of memory it's using.

Adding widgets to the desktop makes them much more responsive.

I haven't had many problems with Dashboard. I have actually found it more useful the more I use it. When I first got Tiger I didn't use it at all but in the past few weeks I have been spending more and more time using it and figuring out cool things I can do with it.

The Family Guy quote generator has been taken down. I wonder if Fox gave the guy a cease and desist letter like they do with Simpsons stuff. :-\

I've never looked. The two machines I use Widgets on have enough RAM (iBook G4 w/ 512 MB, Dual G5 PowerMac w/ 2GB) so I have not had a problem yet.

^^ I like Dashboard better than Konfabulator in a few ways.

I used to use it but never kept it on my desktop much because it took too much screen-space.

I have Dashboard set so that if I slip my mouse to the lower-right hand corner the widgets appear and I can make a note or whatever then click them off.

If I need them on my desktop they can be added to the desktop away from the other widgets.

The trick is to grab the item and hold the mouse down while you exit the Dashboard screen and the widget you are "grabbing" will move to the desktop with the other windows.

You can close that window by snapping back into Dashboard and clicking the "X".
