Based on how awesome the School Tool and the other new features are, yet anothe feature that could make this site even more comprehensive would be a section on student housing/apartments
I think a Tool that contains a rating/review system for the various apartments that are frequented by NCSU students could be very helpful. It could contain the following info:

Name
Location
Management Company
Contact #
typical price
Size (square footage, # of bedrooms/bathrooms)
lease terms
parking rules
website if applicable

Then, in addition to that, current or former residents can post a rating for the apartment based on criteria such as cost, quality of living, management, and post comments on them. I'd imagine it could have a very similar format to the rating system for School tool, and would probably be able to use most of the same code, and thus be implemented with relative ease.

There's prolly other info that i'm not thinking of right now, but you get the picture. Also, you could probably be able to make some money off of these apartment companies by allowing them to post special deals, current vacancies, etc. for a fee.

I think a lot of people would find this useful and would probably attract more users as well.

We would like this to be a one-stop place for all your information...but we only have so much time!! We have talked about this before, and we will look into it when we have time. But the wolfweb is not the only thing in our lives . We are also taking senior level mechanical engineering classes, working on other side web development projects and looking for jobs when we graduate.

you could keep the same format as school tool - one rating for the apt itself, one rating for management by itself, one rating for the two taken together - equivalent to course, instructor, and this course w/ this instructor features. by rating the management co. by itself, that would allow ppl who are going to rent a house to check up on the management/rental co.

putting together the web application would be a snap.

gathering the data would be a pain in the ass. school tool's robot that gathers data is 90% automated and it is still a bitch to keep all of the data current. keeping the data accurate for an apartment tool would be a nightmare. after i graduate, we'll see how much time i have. before then, no way!

Something simpler that could be created would be an apartments section where people simply put comments/ratings/costs/info on their own for each apartment. That way you wouldn't have to scavenge for the info yourself.

yeah I would agree. I think it's pretty easy to find out cost info on your own. But I think people might be more interested in what the people that actually live there think. Far as what they like any problems they've had etc.
