Hey everyone,
Does anyone know how to setup a computer's internet connection thru another computer?
computer 1 : LAN card <---------> LAN: Card computer 2 [computer2]---))))))))wireless internet))))))
I tried to setup thru the wizard and then it gives me an error that is:
IP error....192.168.0.1 is already being used on network, whats the problem? Any better way to do this? 10/12/2005 1:48:04 PM |

google for internet connection sharing.
sounds like you just need to renew the ip address on the computer 1 10/12/2005 1:51:07 PM |

no no, its not that simple... I have pretty good networking knowledge, so this is not a minor refreshing error, trust me..
I just have never done this before, i used the wizard and it gave me a wierd error about ip being used.
I drew the picture wrong previously, this is the correct version:
computer 1 : LAN card <--------->[[[[[ HUB]]]]]<---->LAN: Card computer 2 [computer2]---))))))))wireless internet))))))
now, the wireless router's IP is 192.168.0.1 and that is probably why there is an error but the question is, why does EITHER computer 1 OR computer 2 need that IP 192.168.0.1 to be assigned to them???? That to me sounds like the real question. 10/12/2005 2:01:14 PM |

because ICS turns on it's own DHCP server. You need to change the DHCP address range of the router, preferably to a 10.x.x.x subnet. 10/12/2005 7:25:08 PM |

it doesn't have to be no, but the default gateway of the computer not directly connected to the internet usually needs to be set to the IP of the computer that is directly connected. i believe ICS does start its own dhcp server though so just set everything accordingly and let windows handle it at least to get everything going10/13/2005 1:23:09 AM |
