place their hard drives in the microwave and cook on high for 2-4 minutes till the virus is eradicated.

or have them try to get symantec (which they should be using already...) to update, then reboot in safemode (this is done by rebooting and hitting the f8 key during bootup until a menu appears and selecting one of the safemode options) and then running symantec.

if symantec is not working or not installed, you could always tell them to download and run "stinger" but that's much much less likely to find it.

or just have them call 515-help, they can walk them through virus removal.

^^I got one to work using virusclean...

the other compy is actually NOT xp...it is an older version...

when she restarts in safe mode, all the applications show up...but she can't access the internet to d/l the virusclean program...when she restarts in normal mode, NOTHING shows up, not even the task bar. I suggested she try to d/l the virus clean program onto a disk from her laptop, then transfer it to her desktop...will that work?

nothing is working...that program runs instead of allowing you to save it to a disk

any other ideas?
