Well, ok, they can admonish "this kind of stuff," but I'd hope it'd go something like this:

Admonishing lapses of law and order in high-crime areas -- black or not -- is a little cliche, don't you think? What are they supposed to say -- "don't loot?" I think people predisposed to looting are going to do it anyway. The systemic (moral) problem won't be solved or even helped by ad hoc admonishments.

In the meantime, maybe the city of Toledo ought to show some prudence and not let the Nazis march through the black neighborhoods. Seriously, there's free speech, and there's yelling fire in a crowded theatre -- at great public expense.

Smoker4, from the indications that I heard on TV the protest was not being held in a black neighborhood, the rioters in question met up with the neonazis where they were going to begin their march. In fact, the rioting, looting and such took place in a traditionally Polish neighborhood. They were throwing rocks at the police who were protecting their right to assemble, whether we agree with those who were marching or not. Everything devolved from that point on.

I'm all for protests, counterprotests and free speech, but using the situation as an excuse to incite violence, burn, riot and loot is disgusting and should be soundly admonished.

do you agree that even though we are linked by our national origin both whites and blacks have entirely different cultures?

the point is that as a race, white people arent doing a damn thing to hold blacks down, blacks are doing it to themselves

would you agree also that the majority has given all minorities chances to break this cycle with legislation such as affirmitive action? what about all the scholarships and money that is available to all minorities, that should be distributed based on merit to all people, regardless of race

I'm not saying that the march is an excuse for the riots, just that practical common sense tells you it would cause such a situation, and the city therefore should have forbade it on grounds of law and order.

And for the record, I don't particularly think Neo-Nazis have a right to "assemble" in this sense. Nor do I think Fred Phelps has a right to "assemble" with his God Hates Fags trucks.

The basic reason I feel that way is that they deserve what they get. I mean, it's one thing for the rioters to attack the city as a whole, but in my view they are perfectly justified in throwing shit at the Nazi scumbags.

It's too much to ask people to have them marching through the public streets on the taxpayers' dime.

The right to asssemble in my view is protection from the government unreasonably prohibiting speech. But we're talking about Nazis here -- they represent an ideology that we sent millions of our men to risk their lives to defeat.

If the Nazis want to assemble, then fine -- they can throw a dinner party with Swastika-engraved highball glasses and pork finger food.

But keep 'em out of my streets.
