of 2,000 US dead in the Iraq war?
I'm leaning toward watching "Apocalypse Now" and reflecting on the costs of imperialism.
Or maybe I'll just have a pint and be glad it's not my country that has fucked up so horribly. 10/24/2005 4:07:12 PM |

All it took was realizing the utter futility of it. 10/24/2005 4:09:16 PM |

Stop making little tick marks on your bench posts. Is the 2,000th person more special then the 1st? This war has been costly so far and it hasn't. From an objective standpoint, it could be worse. I just wish Americans could see that. Given our history, this has been a fairly bloodless war. 10/24/2005 6:03:56 PM |

well, we knew we were going to get that going in...nothing strange there, soldiers die all the time
now iraqi civilians, specifically ones not participating in the conflict...how many of them are dead? 10/24/2005 6:04:03 PM |

^ minimum 26,690, nearly 10x the dead from 11 September, 2001.

Funny how people claiming the preciousness of human life always throw an extra quarter towards the "innocents". The obvious implication from the statement. Tell you what, let the U.S. pull out now and when the bitch descends to absolute anarchy.....what then? Let OEPII declare victory?10/24/2005 6:08:38 PM |

oh no, i think we have to stay and clean up our mess now. we owe it to the iraqi people.
i understand why people try to protect the soldiers doing this, i would too if i agreed with the war from the start (i dont). but ill be damned if id want to explain to a mother or father of a child killed in the bombings why we had to do it. what would you care more about: saddam, or your family?
i have a hard time reconciling the killing of non-combatants w/ any cause. thats just me and my morals though. im sure its hard for other christians to reconcile that too, or at least youd think it would be.

Funny, 'milestone' is precisely the term CNN used:
Quote : | "BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- The war in Iraq saw two milestones Tuesday that reflect the country's path to democracy and its human toll as officials said the referendum on a draft constitution passed and the U.S. military's death toll reached 2,000." |
