Unfortunately, I did not get to keep an ENTIRE good luggage set after my divorce, I have odd pieces of different stuff, but we had an AMAZING set that was purchased for us by his parents for our honeymoon. Does anyone have any reccomendations as to great luggage? My last set had about 6 matching pieces. I like the Large Suitcase, medium, Small, garmet bag, duffle bag, and travel bag combo.
Thanks in advance if anyone has reccomendations, and pictures would be GREAT 10/27/2005 1:46:40 PM |

just buy disposable luggage. they get too damaged at airport terminals to be worth spending a lot of money on. 10/27/2005 1:49:09 PM |

That has to be the absolute most stupid purchase you could make.
What possible purpose does a matched luggage set serve? If you need a piece you don't have, go get something suitable. Matching luggage is for worthless hollywood celebritants.
It also lands you as a much more likely target to get your shit stolen, robbed, and hijacked. 10/27/2005 1:58:18 PM |

I just want a good set in general, I could care less honestly about MATCHING, as much as I just want ONE GOOD SET, rather than the crappy random pieces I have laying around. 10/27/2005 2:01:29 PM |

I used to always be the one for travelling in style, so I hear you on getting a good luggage set. I've always been a fan of the Tumi for women line. But since 9/11 happened, each time I travel, my luggage gets "randomly" selected for screening, and something gets spilled, torn or ripped. So these days I just go to Marshall's or TJ Maxx and buy Samsonite or American Tourister on sale in basic colours, so it all matches by default
That said, you should be able to find good stuff online on Overstock or eBay. I don't know where else they sell good luggage in this area, I'd like to know myself.

tumi is great but severely overpriced.
my american tourister bag has lasted me several years and it still looks like new (hard shell).
very light too.
might get the new carbon fiber hard shell 10/28/2005 6:40:24 PM |

Go to a thrift store and buy the hard suitcases ... they can withstand the beatings airlines give them. Sometimes you find a matching set. My mom has a 3pc matching set, but I don't think she's parting with it any time soon. 10/28/2005 6:44:36 PM |

For durability and price, the two pieces I picked up at BJ's are honestly pretty awesome. They're the house brand, Berkeley & Jensen.
I've had them for about 8 years now, still in great shape. They're a bit heavy, but they've got wheels so it's no big deal. The 22" case - my bag for short trips - even has a garment bag that fits inside it. Plus, sturdy enough that I can use it as a seat if I'm waiting in a long line at the airport. The casing around the wheels and the pop up handle mechanism are both designed better than most luggage out there, so they'll last a long time. 10/29/2005 10:02:37 AM |

My parents used to, and still do somewhat, travel a lot and they always had some of that expensive luggage. Sure it looks nice and all, but it was always getting damaged and they finally broke down and started buying the $100 sets at Target or Sams (like 6 pieces), and it lasts just as long as their expensive stuff. Plus for ~$20/piece they really don't care what damage happens to it.
The airline workers are too abusive to warrant the need for expensive, namebrand stuff. Plus with all the riff raff that works for the TSA, your stuff is more likely to get searched and stuff stolen than a cheaper-looking bag. 10/29/2005 10:09:32 AM |

i go to Wally world, the luggage doesnt last long(one trip) but i just go back to Wally world each time to get a replacement. As long as you have that scanner tag thing inside the luggage, that is all they need(to show that they carry it) Actually, the second replacement lasted 2 flights.

the luggage company can say it's abuse and not replace it.

yep.
i was at the luggage claim area of an airport and the guy beside me had his nice camera in his luggage, but it wasn't there when he landed. nice bag.
he was an idiot for putting it in the bag, btw.10/29/2005 12:37:02 PM |

If you want a good bag with a good warranty go with Andiamo. It's not girly and looks more like a military bag. The warranty is a 5 year cover everything. I don't mean limited either. They cover wear and tear and general airline abuse. A 22 inch costs about $595 ish http://www.londonluggage.com/andiamo_valoroso.htm
If you are going to travel a lot, a better bag would be one from the Briggs and Riley line. You'll have to get them repaired more so than Andiamo, Hartmann, or Tumi but the repairs are free for the lifetime of the bag. http://briggs-riley.com/
If you have a ton of money you could always goes with the Luxe series from Hartmann. Their warranty isn't great but their bag is. (example) http://www.suitcase.com/Hartmann-Images/6600_352_3-Standard.jpg Honestly it's a really expensive girly bag.
A good but midground bag is Swiss Army, the swiss werks collection. It comes in blue, red, petal pink ( for a limited time) and black. It's super light, because it only has a partial frame. http://www.letravelstore.com/images/swindex.jpg
Another bag made by Victorinox ( Swiss Army) is the Lingo Line. It's cute. It was made to target the younger crowd. http://baggageforless.com/products.asp?cat=443 10/31/2005 6:44:27 PM |

all of my stuff is American Tourister. i don't know a lot about luggage, but it's served me well.
but the majority of the time, i put everything (or almost everything) i need in my sea bag and just carry that. 10/31/2005 8:09:10 PM |

Yeah, get louis vuitton. But not any of the normal looking stuff, get the stuff with that hideous star pattern that everybody recognizes.
Seriously though, Noen nailed it when he said that it will just make you a target. Airport employees aren't the most trustworthy people in the world and nice luggage equates to nice things inside. 11/1/2005 8:26:33 AM |
