under 16 = decent under 8 = "gaming grade" under 4 = orgasm 10/30/2005 4:44:14 PM |

ive got a 16 -- its gaming grade. it depends on the maker...16ms can be plenty if the mon is made by someone reputable. its not always about the time.
when it comes to text though, if you want nice crisp text, you need 700:1 contrast

^ I used quotes because 8ms is what alot of companies call their "gaming grade" lines 10/30/2005 4:49:05 PM |

Yeah, I meant lowest! My bad.
I am looking to a buy a 19" LCD monitor and planning to use it to play games. Most of the Dells I looked at had a response time of 15 ms and I was wondering whether that's good enough.
So what are the best gaming LCD monitors available these days? (Gaming monitors = used primarily for games/video)

^^gotcha
^yea...15 is fine. check out newegg and youll find that most people dont report ghosting with 16ms moniters from brand name, while sometimes those off brand ones that claim 8-12ms people report ghosting.
go with a real brand name, and go under 16.
pay 300 for that, which gets the job done for gamers
pay 400 for 12ms 700:1 mon that will look really sharp

you should really see the monitor working before you get it though. alot of times off-brand lcd's use the same exact hardware as branded lcd's. with the exception of their high-end lines, most lcd brands don't actually make their own product anyways. my "olevia" 32" lcd hdtv/monitor has incredible specs, looks absolutely amazing, and only cost 1000 bucks as opposed to similar quality samsung and sony panels which run close to 2000 bucks. but with high end stuff, you can trust samsung to be pretty hot as hell. 10/30/2005 6:35:21 PM |

ive got a 19" AOpen 16ms, and it works great for games and video. 1 dead pixel (the risks you take from ordering it online) 10/30/2005 6:43:45 PM |

you will notice slight ghosting with 16ms, but it really won't phase you at all after about a week. 10/30/2005 9:08:23 PM |

^^ True to that.
I went from a 21" Sony CRT with a great refresh rate playing BF2 and Battlefield 1942 all the time to a Dell 19" LCD.
It could tell at first with the LCD that it wasn't as clean an image in quick motion and such but I don't even notice it at all now. 10/30/2005 11:54:23 PM |
