i just hate tryin to predict this stuff when sooner or later they will have double coverage or something and his yards are gonna be diminished, transferred to other players on the team but they will probly have more drops 11/2/2005 12:27:51 PM |

But he's helping the Panthers win..so I could care less if he's overated or underated...either way he's helping the Panthers move up in the NFC standings..so who cares. GO PANTHERS! 11/2/2005 12:32:10 PM |

This week will say a lot about him, going up against a good secondary. Last time he played the Buccs I believe he was limited to 27 yards, if he can prove himself against a solid secondary(probably covered by Ronde Barber) then I'll consider him as a possibly MVP. 11/2/2005 4:09:58 PM |

going against fred smoot wouldn't be considered "solid secondary"? 11/2/2005 4:12:19 PM |

i feel confident that smith can burn the bucs d
i expect keary colbert to do well also. he had success in both games vs the bucs last year and finally got his first touchdown of the season last week 11/2/2005 4:24:27 PM |

i really thought gardner would be more of a factor this year, but he must really be stinking it up in practice cause he hardly sees the field 11/2/2005 5:09:44 PM |

dont count out michael gaines

Ronde Barber is much better than Fred Smoot, Smoot was surrounded by a lot of talent last year and since he was picked up by Minny he has under-achieved a lot, as has many of their big free-agents.
Colbert mainly did well last year against the Buccs because their defense wasn't playing well, plus Muhammad was drawing double teams. Which is another reason why Steve Smith has been putting up monster numbers, no team has tried double teaming him yet, but I expect Gruden will be smarter than that and double team him and make Colbert and Gardner beat him.
Smith and Santana Moss are pretty much the same players on different teams, both shorter than the average WR but make up for it with their game-breaking speed. Just imagine if they were both on the same team, I mean prior to this season neither would be considered as a top 10 WR.
All I know is I hope Smith does keep this up, picked him up as a free agent in my fantasy league first day after the auto-mated draft(didn't go because of his no stats from last year because of injury)

Smith scored 3 TD's against Madison and the Dolphins Defense, which I have always considered to be fairly good. Plus I heard that Smith will be matching up with Kelley this week not Barber. If they do double team him, then hopefully we will have a more effective run game, since he will be able to run off two Defenders every play. 11/2/2005 6:24:04 PM |

he's having to learn the entire playbook. fox said earlier this year that his playing time is up to HIM because they base it on how prepared he is for each play set against each defensive set. obviously, he is a team player and wants to make sure that he is fully prepared before placing someone who knows the plays on the bench...
that's all it is...

i dont think gardner is actually deciding not to play. fox is probably saying it's up to gardner, meaning it's up to him to learn the shit. if he doesn't, fox won't play him. 11/2/2005 7:45:30 PM |

I'd definitely play the double team and force us to run the ball, we haven't run well all year. I mean Davis has a few games with 2 TD's but both were in games where he rushed less than 50 yards. 11/2/2005 8:08:53 PM |
