The funniest part of DeBerry's quote was someone at ESPN took it and since no one made a big deal out of it he did some research. He got all Div I school's speed positions (WR, RB, DB, S, etc.) and did an analysis of who was fastest and the race. There were 5 white guys on the list in the top like 200 names. Thought it was funny...wasn't just a racist comment, maybe he did some research haha.

this story made the bbc world news. it was funny to hear an overly-british guy do a profile about how, whether we choose to acknowledge it or not, black athletes overwhelmingly comprise the positions in sport that require speed and/or agility. again yeah, he was saying what everyone in the sporting world already knows. "white men can't jump" anyone?

The ultimate stupidity of his comment was the context. He was responding to a question as to why the Big Ten has more offense/scoring this year than the last year or two. It was as if black athletes just started playing football.

from my understanding the context was not as you say. He started off by mentioning the addition of indoor practice facilities that would attract more southern athletes to the cold climate of the big 10. That led into a segway of the air force comments and an admittance of truth. What JoePa said was true, he doesn't care if you like it or not. And you've got to remember the guy is old, so when he says recent that covers much more time than you are realizing.
