if he continues to not throw picks he can be average and we can win. I can accept his averageness I suppose if we continue to win 11/5/2005 7:20:48 PM |

stone played well, he is not a stats QB yet, but the team gets behind him, he manages the game well, and he will take a hit and keep ticking, i was very impressed with his composure and toughness tonight

it would be interesting to see how well stone would play if he had an offensive line that was worth anything 11/5/2005 8:46:40 PM |

Our Oline sucks...no doubt.
I do think that part of that is the fact that they know it's going to be run, so the LB's just rush the line every play.
If we had a passing game, I think our OLine would look a lot better. I still don't think Barry can coach. 11/5/2005 8:48:23 PM |

our oline definitely is playing with more pep. Guys are pulling and opening up holes without getting caught from behind. 11/5/2005 9:14:01 PM |

they need to pass block better and need to more consistently run block, it was either big run or 2 yard loss 11/6/2005 2:34:34 PM |

I made the exact same observation to a friend of mine last night (about our team playing like the Ravens SB team). 11/6/2005 3:11:49 PM |

exactly. that was the key thing i noticed right off. stone didn't put up great numbers. but he didn't throw a pick 6, and our defense held.11/6/2005 8:29:29 PM |

so if our o-line sucks, why does brown keep singing their praises for "opening up holes you could drive a truck through". 11/6/2005 11:39:07 PM |

they dont suck they are just teribly inconsistent, sure they open some big holes once every 8 or 9 plays but what about the other 7 or 8 where they allow the defense into the backfield? 11/7/2005 12:05:06 AM |

It's called a screen
Who cares if it isn't what's called, they are practicing for when it is called 11/7/2005 12:06:22 AM |

yeah, Brown would have probably had 200 yards if they would have just held their ground on the plays they totally fucked up. He probalby had 5 plays where he lost yardage caues he got hit as soon as he got the ball. 11/7/2005 12:10:43 AM |

^well on those plays, they are opening up holes. its just that the LB's are coming through from the other side before the RB gets through the hole. Sometimes they are through before they even hit the hole. 11/7/2005 7:41:01 AM |

Speaking of... why the hell don't we throw screens to get Stone into a rhythm?
I know WR screens are hard to throw... but what about a jailbreak screen to Andre or maybe put in Bobby/Blackmon at RB?11/7/2005 7:45:48 AM |

because we can never get a screen to work, they always go for neg yardage. on the other hand though, screens are the way to beat us. the ends overpersue and a screen always goes for at least 5 yards against us. quite often for 10 or more.11/7/2005 9:00:25 AM |

He got benched when he fumbled in the first quarter of the SMU game. Hasn't seen the field since. Don't know why.
I understand that you start the man riding a hot streak, so it makes sense to have Brown starting and seeing a majority of the work. I'm not quite sure why Blackman and Reggie are getting the entirety of the rest of the work though. An interesting theory I heard is that, for the second through 4th running back, order on the depth chart is determined by how recently you've fumbled. Since Davis rarely fumbles, and Blackman's last miscue was (immediately) before Baker's, Toney is stuck in 4th.
This does not seem to apply to Bobby Washington (has he carried the ball more than 5 times this year?) or Jamelle Eugene (true freshman who's just not as good as the others).11/7/2005 9:43:04 AM |

Baker doesn't hold onto the football. He has been dropping it even more often than TA did. No way Chuck was going to put Toney in against FSU, being that a fumble could cost us the game.
"I'm not quite sure why Blackman and Reggie are getting the entirety of the rest of the work though."
It's not by the most recent fumble, it's by how often they fumble. Baker has like 6 fumbles this year, whereas Reggie I don't think has any, & Blackman I think has only 1.
