I don't know if it's my computer or internet connection or what...but I've run plenty of adaware 'type' programs (bazooka, hijackthis, etc) and am fairly certain that I don't have any obvious viruses.... But I'd at least like to narrow down my problem to either my internet connection or my computer....I'm sure there's some kind of information I can get from pinging my computer right? Will that narrow anything down? And here's a screen cap of my performance......are there any obvious problems that indicate something could be wrong somewhere?

I've never quite understood what that tab is supposed to be telling me so if anyone has any input I'd be greatful

Are you running Seti or any other type of distributed computing software?

Have you tried looking at the process list?

no...not running Seti....and yes I've looked at the process list and don't see anything out of the ordinary....

Why do you ask about Seti or a program like that?...is there anything that seems to indicate that I am?

^^ A lot of distributed software stuff would be hogging CPU and memory when you're not doing anything, but then when you go to look at the task manager it will die down.

those screenshots look perfectly normal, other than the CPU Usage Spike, which isnt entirely out of the ordinary

If it spikes regularly, especially without your intervention, that could indicate a problem. Also, you're using alot of programs at once, and you only have 512MB of memory, so a possible upgrade to 1GB could help especially if you're using Photoshop alot.

Even though it shows you have ~122MB of available memory, Windows will still swap out stuff to disk, which can and will cause a CPU usage spike like that

you never said, so What exactly is the problem with your computer?

i also fail to see anything wrong witht hat picture. A common problem is that the CPU is stuck at 100% or a high percentage, but your CPU usage is just fine. Your RAM/PF is also fine and all the major memory hogs look to be legitimate. If you're worried about any process in particular, check it here to know what program it stems from and if you need to kill it - http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm

as a side note, i think people are generally too worried about how much RAM is being used. Assuming you have a decent amount (512 or more, or even 256 if you're just browswing/emailing) Windows will do a fine job of managing it, also assuming you don't have any malware. There's no need to go behind windows and clean up processes and free up memory - you have a lot of memory for a reason. It's not doing you or your computer any good for that memory to remain empty, so Windows will keep it as full as possible and just swap when necessary.
