so i want to get one of those drawing tablets so i can draw free hand on the computer

I think Wacom is the way to go.

if you are going to drop $ on a Wacom just go ahead and get a Cintiq. They are the fucking BOMB DIGGITY. I never could get used to the tablets, but dear god, drawing right on a 21" lcd is beautiful. They make smaller ones that you can get on ebay now for a lot less.

Anything wacom makes as good. Get as nice a one as you can justify throwing at this. You won't kno what you did without it once you have it.

the Pablo tablet would be perfectly fine for most people, imo. I'm glad I didn't shell out for a Wacom back in the day because it'd be collecting dust just like my Pablo I forgot how many levels of pressures, etc.

i've always considered picking one of these up... they're indispensable when doing any photoshop or flash work. but i could never justify it, as 300$ for something i do from time to time wouldn't be as useful as something like a MyEclipse license.

anyone know if the design school checks what school i'm in? i've heard they can check them out for a few hours.

You can't check out tablets, that I know of.

Been awhile since I've been in school but last I rememberred they had some old serial tablets. I'm sure if they do have tablets still they'd have the usb enabled ones. And as far as checking them out, I do believe they check to see if you're in design school.

Wacom makes some quality stuff. That being said though, i havent touched mine in months, and it does certainly take some getting used to and some talent to use it.

What do you want it *for*?
You've said drawing, but if you want to just make decent looking sketches for something or other- or simple things (like a landscape artist might do to lay stuff out), then go with a non wacom at first, replace it if you outgrow it.

If you want to produce serious artwork, get a wacom.
