11823322 somehow converts to eb3bc40c91

But I can't figure out how... can anyone help me? I promise this isn't for anything nefarious.

Could you give any more details to narrow it down? Is the first number the only input to the hash?

Even if someone mapped one to the other, with only one example it would probably be useless. Would need a few to make sure the hash produced consistant results.

i'm confused about your question.

do you know which hashing algorithm is being used? if so, then you would be asking somebody to walk you through the algorithm. if not, then you would be asking somebody to take what amounts to a wild guess...

pbg4:~ joe$ md5 -s 11823322
MD5 ("11823322") = 319a568060e3f265de131343978417a6
pbg4:~ joe$

... what hashing algorithm are you using?

a "hash" of a value can be anything - why would that value be weird?

eb3bc40c91 is the memory address that the hash points to, its the memory address of the object created to store the hash...

could be wrong...

but I just did this and I know that if you try to display an uncasted object it will just return the memory address

I wanted to know the hash function (hoping it was obvious to someone), but I don't have any other inputs/outputs to the function (I don't know what algorithm).

yeah there is this guy that can look at any 2 sequences and know the hash function - he'll post tomorrow

I bet DVDJon can.

I've done it before though for an extremely simple hash function.

well there is the hash function built into java... it does use the memory address but thats a bad thing b/c its runtime dependant... they recommend not using it

in the case of a one-way hash most of the point is to obfuscate the original value... if all you got is one pair of data, good luck you'll need it

State409c, stick to hardware... 5 points to OmarBadu for ridiculing the thread.

I see nothing wrong with my post and your dis is unwarranted.

I mean it is pretty easy for you to sit there and say I look wrong considering at the time of my post no one had a clue if he was meaning a 1 way hash or some value returned by perl or whatever.

Each scenario is equally valid because any rational person (and OmarBadu for the win here) will realize how asinine of a question that was in the 1 way hash sense, so it MUST have been a perl/programming question.

So, save your dick wagging and bullshit for another thread. I'm sorry you couldn't feel superior in this one.

As soon as all these little dick fags (I realize the irony) mans up and stops with the bullshit trying to own the other person which basically amounts to trolling because either they are stupid or really are trolling, then I'll stop having to respond.

I mean seriously, Incogfagro made a pretty baseless troll that started the shit.

hard to get around the fact that you've been shown to be wrong in both threads though

Just shut the fuck up for once.

This culture of one upsmanship in Tech Talk has forever been ghey and you lead the charge most of the time.

There's a lot of hate in this thread.

This was a combination programming problem and asinine question though (more on the asinine side however, but it was 5AM, that's my excuse).
