Quote : | "Former Miami Killian star running back Bobby Washington, who settled for North Carolina State after the University of Miami denied him admission last year, wants to transfer to another college, said his mother, Leslie Washington Mortimer.
''He's not happy there,'' Washington Mortimer said Wednesday. ``Bobby hasn't played in the running back position for four or five games. He has barely been handed the ball. I would do anything to get him at the University of Miami -- anything.

Well, Bobby, if you can't start at running back at lil' ole NC State.... you sure as hell aren't going to start at Miami

This article may be a little old or the interview was awhile back...
Seems kinda odd if he decided to ask for a move to safety, then openly wanted to transfer 2-3 days later. 11/17/2005 7:26:43 AM |

I think this interview was done before the switch to safety. My guess is that the safety switch was done in response to him requesting a transfer...
Either way, he seems to think just becuase of his accolades that he's a shoe in and he's not willing to work at it 11/17/2005 8:28:14 AM |

Bobby went to the coaches and told them he wanted to play another position.. and they said, good, we want you to play WR and he said, no...i want to play safety he has had a couple interceptions already in a few days of practice..

Keep in mind this was his mom's words, not his. No date for it either.
He should get the chance to see the field Saturday, assuming we can put MTSU away. I think the position change will ultimately be in his best interest, and he'll stick around. However, if we build a big lead and he doesn't see the field Saturday, it may mean he's gone. 11/17/2005 10:05:29 AM |

The ONLY reason he didnt start the season as numero uno was he couldnt hold on to the football. If he cant do it here, what makes him think he can anywhere else.
I think he's staying...but I wouldnt be surprised if his mom just made those statements to inspire something.

All I know is that he either needs to play another position or quit. If he cant hold onto the ball here, in practice, when they're not trying to kill him, what makes him think he can do it somewhere else?
His best bet is seriously at WR. I can imagine it would be much easier to learn routes than to learn the instincts safeties require. Plus, he made a catch against Clemson last year then got flipped upsided down and held onto the ball. Plus he's fast, and we're losing 3 seniors. I guarantee Amato will give him a chance at any other position though as long as he's willing. He keeps saying they really want BW on the field because of his natural talent....its just probably not going to happen this season. 11/17/2005 1:58:05 PM |

don't understand why he doesnt want to play at WR. Maybe he is not confident in our passing game. Also, is he actually that fast? i don't remember him being particularly fast last year. Andre brown seems faster.
when you say fast, do you mean roscoe parrish running past our secondary fast? 11/17/2005 2:00:28 PM |

I think WR or Safety could both be good options for him. We've had other guys move from offense to the defensive backfield that are now in the pros: Dovonte Edwards (WR), Lamont Reid (HS RB). K-Rob made the successful transition from RB to WR. 11/17/2005 2:02:46 PM |

Hey we are going to need receivers next year losing Hall, Clark, Hicks. So why not, playing time will be there at WR. I say him and Blackman move there and return kicks. Then have Brown, Baker, and Davis running the ball and everyone sees the field. Blackman had the catch of the year last year against Maryland and he definetely has the speed.

we really think we can afford to lose a player for reasons other than discipline
as if we dont need depth, or even greater aptitude in many of the fielded positions come game time

I don't know what to think about our team next year.
Our talent looked so good coming into this season, and we blew it.
So what are we going to do when we lose so much after this year?
Manny, Hudson, Clark, Hall, Herndon, Hicks, Hoyte, McKeon, TJ, and probably Mario...

There might be on campus auditions to Play LB, should be ok on the D line with Tank, Demario, M. Brown, John Mac, and Martin II, with solid but not rock solid depth. Getting Brooks back would be like landing a 5 star IMO. Secondary will be good to great. TJ is good, but Hill is solid and a fine replacement. RB=nuff said. The big question over the last 2 years and will be in the Spring, QB.
I sure hope Bobby finds a nice new home. Florida is about the only place I can think of, no where in the ACC will accept because it would take minimum 2 years, and the ACC "frowns" on it. Rival fans can say Chuck is this and that, but when a 4 star parade All American RB wants to come to your team, for whatever reason, and his scores have been cleared by the NCAA, you take him, any coach would, including Bunting. Now rivals can say Chuck screwed the kid, so I guess chuck should put his common sense aside and not play the best player at the RB position, I'm sure Baker and Brown would gladly accept it That said, I hope Bobby gets it done in OUR secondary a la Sean Taylor. 11/17/2005 8:15:56 PM |

Linebacker? All of them are back next year but Oliver Hoyte. Stephen Tulloch has been the BEST player on the whole team this year. Pat Lowery and LeRue Rumph are both quality linebackers. We will be fine on defense with the whole secondary back other than Hudson as well. Scott, Heath, Morgan, AJ Davis, Sutton...these guys are good players. 11/17/2005 11:04:02 PM |

Our linebackers are good this season... but if one gets hurt were in a whole heap of trouble.
I believe his point is that we'll be paper thin there.... and he's 100% correct. Winning in football is more than just your starters. Our starters will be fine... problem is we don't have anyone to allow them to get hurt or to come out for a breather11/17/2005 11:08:16 PM |

^^yeah, i looked at that too . . . but is that list everyone who played in the game or all the starters? Cause I am pretty sure that moses saw at least a little PT and he isn't on that list.
But there are 26 names. So where do the extra 4 come from if thats the case?

Thats what I was thinking but idk. I dont get y they do that part differently for diff games. Look at some games and it lists the starters, other games are like the one you linked to. I can't believe that that is everyone that played in the game. Only 26? According to the stats for FSU we played like 40 people.
Either way, I dont think he played. Woulda heard something about that well before now. And there is no way you let someone with a week of practice play in a game you are losing like that in unless you have absolutely no choice.
If he did, I would imagine someone noticed it and said something in the game thread, but I am too lazy to look through that atm. 11/17/2005 11:17:30 PM |

there was an interview on scout.com with Amato saying something along the lines of "it would be stupid to put him in there and have something bad happen...because safety is the last line of defense...so if the opposing team scores...its on him if he messes up"
here
Quote : | "Any timetable as far as playing time for Washington? No, he's got to learn what he's doing. The worst thing we could do would be to put him back there and then he does something wrong. Because when you're playing back there at safety, you're the last line of defense - everybody sees those guys making mistakes, nobody sees the defensive tackle make a mistake, or the offensive tackle or the offensive guard. But they see other people make mistakes and that could just ruin the fact that he feels good about himself and his confidence. That would be the worst thing in the world that we could do.
