I have recently aquired a multi-user version of Windows XP Pro, and so I decided to upgrade from 2000. The instillation was running smoothly until there was approximatly 32 min left and it was installing the network under the install XP Pro section. I thought I had a bad disk, so I got another copy that was clean, no scratches, but every time it just hangs there with 32 min left. I've tried waiting it out, but its sat there for 8 hours and hasn't moved on. I fiddled with it enough to see that the error log shows something like:

An error has occured while setting system security

... an extended error has occured

What does this mean, other than I'm screwed? I've tried booting with my 2000 setup disks, but every time the computer boots up it goes directly to the XP setup, I can't get out of it? Somebody please help me, how do I get my computer back?

if you have room for a second drive you could just install xp freshly on a new drive and use the second drive as a slave to keep all the info on it as not a bad last resort
