We are loosing our oil changer in two weeks. If you have automotive experience come by and get an application. Pay starts out at $12 per turned hour with no certifications. ASE starts higher. The oil changer does, oil, brakes, flushes, tires, etc. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. 11/29/2005 4:02:54 PM |

no. I don't count the guy that is leaving. He has over a year of experience, but he only did the basic stuff. Brakes, oil, tires, flushes, crap like that. I hate how 69 always talks crap about my shop. I don't work there all that often (8 hours a week) due to school, but I still work there.

^ many friends with bad experiences there. two major rip offs that i know for a fact, such as replacing a starter and ignition switch, problem recurred the next day, i looked at it, and it was a corroded battery terminal that had obviously never been touched the day before, etc., etc., etc., not enough time to discuss everything right now, it may be different now, but as of last year, i would never reccomend that place to anyone, even if they had AAA they were better off paying to have it towed somewhere else. 11/29/2005 7:22:14 PM |

That's funny, because I have done an assload of both. I disconnect the battery damn near all the time.
Was a time when I just didn't give a fuck, and I did plenty of swaps without ever disconnecting the battery. An arc here and there never hurt anybody...riiiiight. I decided to ditch the shitty attitude and take care of things the right way. 12/1/2005 7:28:27 PM |

i must be retarded then, if its impossible to get wrench on the terminals without disconnecting, i'll unhook battery, if i feel like letting the lift back down 12/1/2005 11:02:30 PM |

any tech worth a shit knows to disconnect the battery first when doing this type of work, and obviously you arent one of them.
the only time i might consider not disconnecting the battery is when I was doing something like an alternator on a OBDII car that also has to be inspected, so that I dont have to deal with any unset readiness codes. 12/1/2005 11:38:06 PM |

AAA here fucked my friend. his car was over heating and losing power. i told him its sounded like a head gasket with the loss of power and heat. he took it in and told AAA he thought thats what it was. they told him 1600 bucks to fix it. AAA claimed there was antifreeze in the oil. i told him that was to much and gave him the number of a guy i knew 10 min up the road. he took the car and my friend drove it there! head gasket was fine if he drove it and it was fine. the other guy i knew found the problem being a fubard radiator. NO antifreeze in the oil, power, took 10 min to overheat, and no white smoke. basicly AAA lied to him and tired to charge him 1600 bucks. they never checked the oil, and they misdiagnosed. bottom like it was 250 bucks instead of 1600 and it wasnt even in the ball park to the same problem. fuck AAA for their lieing and taking advantage.
we went to AAA and rasied hell with them and their bullshit wanna be techs 12/2/2005 12:17:01 AM |

ase certifications are just a money scam for the people doing the certifications, it doesnt tell me shit about what they know about cars. if i ever let anyone besides myself touch my truck, it would be someone whos had years of experience, ase certified or not, much more so than someone fresh off the fucking boat from tech school who is certified to be able to read books and has never been under the hood of a vehicle and thinks they are the goddamn best thing since sliced bread. 12/2/2005 12:29:43 PM |

i'll be damned if i'll let some kid on the internet that has probably never been under the hood of a vehicle before call me out on not being experienced. i was working on diesel trucks before i was in high school, not to mention doing contracting work with my grandfather. i am a licensed gc in nc and in addition to working at my full time job at the shop, do a shitload of contracting, mostly electrical and remodeling work when i am not at the shop, in addition to being a full time student, so trying to say i am a book smart engineer that doesnt get his hands dirty and has no mechanical ability is just another way of proving your stupidity in assuming all engineers are the same. i have been in the auto repair setting for years, and there are few people that aspire to do anything else. there are damn fewmechanical trades out there that i couldn't walk right on the job and perform flawlessly, but that doesnt mean i'm gonna quit there. my personal interest is chemical engineering, and i would quit a job if i got stuck in an office all day, i would be out in the plant all the time. both co-ops i have done, i was right out there with the mantenance workers, solving problems on the spot as they tried to correct process issues, instead of waiting days for it to show up on my desk and have a meeting about it with people that havent seen that part of the plant in years, if it wasn't between the parking lot and their office.
