update yo shit

it's only been released on the internal software updates through firefox (meaning it's on their FTP, and not on the website yet)

so you can get it from here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.5/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%201.5.exe

Too bad Opera is better. Wasn't the 8.5 release of Opera just released?

And Opera has had that for how long? Plus Opera is still faster and blocks ALL pop-ups.

Opera is at 8.5 and Firefox is only at 1.5?
Why that must mean that Opera is 5.667 times better than Firefox!

I CANNOT INSTALL ANY EXTENSIONS WITH FIREFOX 1.5

it tells me to enable software installation, i choose to ignore warning and/or add the site to the exception list, still doesn't work.

The other day I had both browsers (Opera 8.5 and Mozilla 1.5rc3) open and was looking at the memory. Opera did have the slightly smaller initial footprint but when I opened 8 different sites in tabs in both browsers opera had used up FAR more memory and it also wasn't dumping it all when closing tabs.

If I'm a user, I know nothing about web browsers, and I see:
-An e with a ring around it
-An o with a shadow behind it
-A fox that looks like its tail is on fire

I'm clicking the damn fox. Right, and mozilla.org/firefox is now updated with 1.5

I used to use Opera, but there was so much shit it couldn't do and so many websites that I couldn't access because of it (like NCSU registration, etc.), so I changed over to firefox.

yeah, i thought you got the answer, but RC stands for release candidate - meaning, almost there, but not quite. this is the final release codenamed deer park.

it's free too - can't hurt to have both. i still don't like any browser's handling of memory leaks after a few hours (even if left idle overnight) as compared to IE. like for example, i left FF open all night - started off using around 45-50 MB of RAM and right now it's using 114 MB. even if i used maxthon as an add-on for IE with most of the plugins and stuff that firefox has, the memory problem doesn't exist.

Does 1.5 fix the problem where it sucks?

That's weird, I'm using firefox, it's been open all night with adobe running within one of the windows, and it's only using 18 mb... Is that problem only with newer versions?

the memory leak issue is typically caused by the flash plugin, and there's an easy fix that seems to have worked for me. it's not the browser that's causing the problem, it's flash

http://fusion94.org/archives/2005/07/firefox_memory.html

also, if your extensions won't work yet

i tried that memory thing and now it's the same shitty browser as every other one out there - freezing up when loading certain websites, etc.

I'm booted into Ubuntu Linux and it's even faster than it was in Windows (Opera that is, not Sucksfox).

^firefox or opera?
I have over 45 tabs open in opera and I'm only using 125mb of ram, no slowdown seen in rendering speed

Umm...at least 10 of my plugins don't work with the new version. If greasemonkey doesn't work on this I'm switching back.

if your extensions don't work, get this Nightly Tester Tools extension -
http://users.blueprintit.co.uk/~dave/web/firefox/buildid/nightly.html

It more or less allows you to install outdated or incompatible extensions on any firefox version.
