Quote : | "Among those documents are the back-and-forth communications between Blanco’s office and the White House, starting with a letter Blanco sent President Bush a day before the hurricane hit.
“I have determined that this incident will be of such severity and magnitude that effective response will be beyond the capabilities of the state and the affected local governments and that supplementary federal assistance will be necessary,” Blanco wrote.
Three days after the storm, Blanco wrote Bush asking that the 256th Louisiana National Guard Brigade be sent home from Iraq to help. The governor also asked for more generators, medicine, health care workers and mortuaries.
Five days later, Bush assistant Maggie Grant e-mailed Blanco aide Paine Gowen to say that the White House did not receive the letter.
“We found it on the governor’s Web site but we need ‘an original,’ for our staff secretary to formally process the requests she is making,” Grant wrote. “We are on the job but appreciate your help with a technical request. Tnx!”" |
Yeah good thing the local government never requested, and in fact refused federal assistance. I could go through and pick out quotes from earlier threads for some good old fashioned crow eating, but I'll leave that to someone that cares more.12/4/2005 9:38:06 PM |

i'm also sure you could find a letter saying "oh, I'll bet this won't be a big deal" sent by someone in an equivalent position elsewhere. but hey, keep drinking the kool-aid, man. 12/4/2005 9:46:02 PM |

I agree that the federal government was slow to act, but this all comes the states over dependency on the federal government. The state governments should be able to be more self sufficient than this. And there is still no excuse for Nagin not to have gotten those people out of there with all those school buses. No excuse whatsoever. 12/5/2005 9:24:23 AM |
