I got my Dell Inspiron 6000 today and was trying to intall Microsoft's Small Business package.

Opened an application that request the 25 character product key and is telling me it is invalid.

Yes, I quadruple checked the numbers.

Call tech support about it. Otherwise, the Internet is wide open (hint, hint).

There's no 0 or O. So rules that out.

I'll call tech tomorrow. I don't have my customer and order number with me.

well either you typo'ed it (which you claim you didnt) or its an invalid key

in which case i would suggest that you find a valid key.

OR the key has been pirated by somebody else through use a key generator.

Call Dell tech support and make sure you have your order/customer number. Should be floating around in an email or on an order summary somewhere.

Sometimes the system comes with a trial version of ms office installed. Dell and alot of companies will either leave the trial version on and not install the version you paid for, or leave both on. For some reason the trial version always has priority, and it uses different cd keys. Go to add remove programs, remove any trial versions. You also may have to remove ALL versions of office installed and just reinstall using the media they gave you. I've had to do this before.

the tech support is in india, so it doesn't matter that it's midnight...you can call them now and say you have a product key that doesn't work. they'll fix you up.

at least, that's how it worked when my office xp key was supposedly invalid

I'm not that bad. lol

This hasn't been resolved yet, because...I haven't called.

But I will tell ya'll what happened when I feel like calling. Right now I have access to other 'puters in the house so I'm not in a rush.

just email dell support. it saves you time on the phone and you get the same level of support or better.

just start calling ppl and quit asking t-dub. both of them are probably at fault, i'd call dell first since you purchased it from them and they'll let you know what to do
