Quote : | "Passenger Fatally Shot At Miami International Airport
The passenger was shot on the jetway leading to the plane, which was just about to depart for Orlando, authorities said. The man was identified as Rigobert Alpizar, a 44-year-old man from Maitland, Fla.
James Bauer, special agent in charge of the federal air marshal program's Miami field office, said Alpizar indicated there was a bomb in his carry-on bag. He was confronted by air marshals but attempted to run off the plane, Bauer said.
"He remained noncompliant with air marshals' instructions," Bauer said. "He attempted to evade them."
It was unclear whether the shot was fired during the course of a struggle between the marshal and the passenger or whether the marshal fired the weapon to stop the passenger.
Bauer said there were two marshals assigned to the plane.
Miami-Dade police had few details.
"We have had a shooting on this American Airlines plane," said Mary Walters, of the Miami-Dade Police Department. "The airplane appears to be secure. The officers, special response team, and fire rescue are on the scene. We're trying to get the details before we advise what has happened."
The plane was parked at Terminal D. Bauer said Alpizar boarded a plane in Ecuador and flew to Miami. He was heading to his Orlando home, according to authorities.
Bauer said the contents of the bag were examined. No explosives were found.
He said more information would be released regarding the events that led to the shooting.
"Once you have an intention and the means, I would say that qualifies for shooting," said Yoel Litson, former security manager for El Al Israel Airlines.
Passenger Says Man Was Frantic
Mary Gardner, a passenger on Flight 924, told NBC6 in Miami that she heard four to five shots fired. Gardner had been a guest on a morning show on NBC6 during a segment about inexpensive Christmas gifts.
Gardner called NBC6 and said she was seated in the third row of the coach section of the aircraft. She saw a man run frantically through the aisle from the back of the plane to the first-class area before the shots were fired.
She said a woman who was apparently traveling with the man was screaming, "My husband. My husband."
"Her husband ran through the aisle frantically. She ran after him, and all of a sudden there were four or five shots," Gardner told NBC6 via cell phone.
Gardner also said she heard the woman say that her husband was bipolar and had not taken his medication.
Gardner said she was not sure if the shooting happened in the first-class section of the airplane or outside on the jetway.
After the shooting, police boarded the plane and told passengers to put their hands on their head. Gardner said the passengers onboard remained calm and were later escorted off the plane and onto a bus.
"It was quite scary," she said. "They wouldn't let you move. They wouldn't let you get anything out of your bag. ... Thank God everybody seems to be fine."
No other injuries were reported." |

old
but not so crazy.
when you draw your weapon you have the intent to kill.
not stop, not take down, not "suppress"
you aim center mass and it's one shot-one kill. standard training.
the marshal's did absolutely nothing wrong.
as far as the guy, he was probably just a nutcase. now he's no longer a problem. 12/7/2005 11:45:02 PM |

I fully expect to hear the same people who are complaining that we're not trying to keep the skies safe start complaining about this. 12/8/2005 2:38:58 AM |

THE GOV'T ISN'T DOING ENOUGH TO KEEP US SAFE! CONSPIRACY IN THE SKIES
OMG THE GOV'T KILLED A MAN ON A PLANE! CONSPIRACY IN THE SKIES
it's circular liberal rhetoric. it's expected.
See:
I actually voted for the 87 billion before I voted against it.
All of their arguments follow this template.

you guys so fucking pathetic. this is completely a non-partisan affair and here you guys are bad-mouthing the other side for no reason.
get a life.
no wait, i know the reason: because a self-esteem enlarging opportunity could be extracted from it.

My self-esteem will go up when I'm proven right and someone does exactly what I predicted.
They will. If not here, on some TV show. 12/8/2005 9:47:20 AM |
