So I was running some generic ddr400 512mb modules in dual channel mode in my A64 based system. I aquired 2 free 512mb ddr333 modules and am trying to see if it is worth putting this in my system. I don't game that much so maybe that should be my answer there (add them). I do some occasional DVD ripping (need higher bandwidth, right?) so, hmmm.

Their stock timings as reported by the SPD are 2.5-8-4-3 (CAS,tRAS,tRCD,tRP). Sandra gives me 4989MB/s Int. and 4925MB/s FP.

Stock for these 333 modules are 2.5-7-4-3. Running all four at these settings and I get 3861/3866 Int./FP

So far I just had 1 shot at pushing them to ddr400 with 2.5-10-4-4 timings and I get 4545/4557 Int/FP.

This seems pretty reasonable to me these 333 modules. I tried running the 333s with the 444 settings (no voltage tweaks) and I get BSOD'd. Would the rest of you bother with trying to ring the last 400mb out of them (or more perhaps with a voltage bump)?

most a64 boards/chipsets won't run with 4 dimms above ddr333.

444 was supposed to be 400, ie I tried to run the 333 modules (along with the other 400s) with the stock 400 timings.

^ That's what I thought to0, but a coworker said he did it fine with his lanparty and I did it fine last night. I didn't stress test it other than run the memory benchmark but otherwise it seemed fine, 200mhz, 2.5-10-4-4-2T. My coworker did mention he thought that AMD addressed that issue in the newer chips, including the Venice which I have.

Yea, things are running stable and I have a chaintech board. I might play around with them some more. I was surprised at 10-4-4 the bandwidth was still decent or else I wouldn't have made a thread. I thought I was going to have to play the is 1g at 4900MB/s that much better than 2g at like 3900MB/s or something.

^ That kid is dead to me.
