Has anyone ever taken this course? If so, how is it? 12/9/2005 5:40:27 PM |

492R? is that the lasers course? i took that and the fiber optics course (492k i think). both are great classes, and kolbas is one hell of a professor. A++ excellent, will recommend !
oh, and a word of advice: don't cheat. don't even think about it, for he can sense it and see it in your eyes, and he will set out to find you. just ask the students who took the lasers course a couple of years ago. Correct me if I'm wrong, but BlackSheep's crowd was involved in the scandal (maybe not him, but defintely some people in his picture gallery).

I am in that class. It is a good course. We have to build many circuits including our own power supply that we will be using through out the semester. 12/9/2005 8:24:58 PM |

^ Is the class hard or easy. In other words, how hard is the grading?
^^ I'm more of a digital guy myself 12/9/2005 9:03:36 PM |

Actually, what I wanted to say is I have registered for that course for the Spring 2006 semester. This course is a very new course ( Spring 2006 is the first semester) established by Dr. Kolbas. 12/9/2005 9:59:02 PM |

Any word on whether they'll alter the schedule to allow us to take it with senior design?

he talked about this class over the summer and said it was going to be all hands-on, sounds awesome presuming you don't have anything else that demands a lot of time (job, senior design)
i'd take any class with him you could, he and bilbro are easily the best ECE profesors here 12/11/2005 4:54:50 AM |

I didn't appreciate Bilbro very much... 12/11/2005 12:19:44 PM |

how long ago did you have bilbro? He's deffinitly the best teaching professor and on the top of my list for professors at NCSU. I was talking to a friend of mine who had him a few years ago and it was almost like he was talking about somebody different... I believe he has changed dramatically in the past few semesters...
but bilbro kicked ass for explaining stuff and making the class learnable, very friendly and approachable(sp?)...
I really like the direction the department has taken with its newer professors. Some of them have a lot to learn about teaching but they are all very approachable and extremely helpfully one on one in their office hours... Unlike other older professors (no names I'm starting gradschool and I'm sure I'll be working with these people soon ) 12/11/2005 5:16:37 PM |

i had bilbro back in 2001 or 2002 (probably 2002). id to talk to him sometimes in his office hours, ask for some help, and for some reason he always just came off to me as a pretentious cocksucker. i dunno why i feel this way though, since everyone else i know absolutely loved him 12/11/2005 6:33:08 PM |
