I've currently got an LG VX4500, and I'm adding another line to my Verizon Wireless account debating between these two phones.
I went digging through a shitload of reviews online, but it's like the Mac-vs-PC debate -- everyone with Phone A swears on their life it's the best in the world and Phone B just sucks.
They're both the same price. The only real hardware features I'd use on either of them (at least right now) are bluetooth, and occasionally the camera and speakerphone. Software-wise I need an alarm clock and calculator.
I trust TDub's tech people so I figured I'd head here. Any comments / suggestions?

8100 ftw
1. you're already comfortable with the LG menus - it saves time to stick with it 2. even if you don't use the mp3 player in the phone, it's kinda cool to have it - the speakers are loud enough for it too. 3. SD mini cards are cheaper
there's tons more reasons - everyone is having the same debate. check out the phonescoop user reviews for more pro/con lists. 12/15/2005 2:41:59 PM |

I chose the 8100... like others have said, the menus are a little easier to navigate, especially if you've owned other LG phones.
I just wish I could get around Verizon's bluetooth gestapo. 12/15/2005 2:48:38 PM |

I have the E815 and I love it. It doesnt have the standard verizon menu (red menu) and is very hackable. 12/15/2005 3:05:04 PM |

wtf is up w/ the red menus? when did Verizon make that change?
I like the 8100...but really hate the MP3 player buttons on the cover. Sounds stupid but that might actually push me to the e815 12/15/2005 10:51:52 PM |

I'd never actually use the MP3 player though, that's why God invented iPods... 12/15/2005 11:06:16 PM |

if my ass were on fire and the only way I could put it out was to use a CDM8940 phone, I would let my ass burn. personal opinion, but I am not a fan of that phone.
certainly not compared to the e815 or th lg8100. 12/20/2005 12:02:11 AM |

What is wrong with Verizon's Bluetooth? I'm on Verizon and looking for a BT capable phone now, so it is important to me.
The hinge on the LG8100 felt much more solid than the e815 in the store. I don't own either one, so I don't really have any other input. 12/20/2005 11:28:20 AM |

they've crippled the bluetooth on the 8100 so that it can only work with the headset or hardware that they approve of.
therefore, out of the box, you can't use bluetooth to transfer files to/from it via your PC, and you can't use it as a connection to the phone to dial out with your pc/laptop.
but bitpim solves those problems. 12/20/2005 11:38:27 AM |
